305 to 350 whant 300hp

Hi !
Can I have some comments about my comming swap.
I got a 350 from a 89 van and going to do the swap soon,my question is what would i do to guarantee get the 300hp goal(at the engine).I also have a 670 cfm tb,do I need to change the computer .
What heads are the most bang for the money to the 350.
Thanks!

Well as far as the swap goes your gonna need a 350 tbi chip out of a cop car caprice or a custom chip everyone here will reccomend that you burn your own but thats not really necessary as long as your setup is computer friendly you shouldnt need chip tuning although I will admit it will help you get the most of your car performance wise but you dont need. oh and you can get either one of those chips from www.tbichips.com then you will need a 350 knock sensor and ESC module. That should get you up and running fine. Now on to the 300 hp thing. Well I would definetly reccomend vortec heads for the best bang for the buck. The only problem with those heads is they cant handle any more than .470 lift with out being slightly modified but you dont really need a cam with that much lift to get you goal. I am not really sure on the cam but one of the comp cam dual pattern cams should do fine. Theres one with .421/.451 lift that should work fine. Top that off with a good manifold such as the performer RPM(remember the vortecs require a special manifold)the holley 670 tbi, headers and a catback and your set. Good Luck.

I like the specs of the cam you are running now. The vortec heads would be a good choice but they would need alittle modification to handle your lift. You can buy them already modified for more lift, and they are still a good value. Or you could buy a set and have them modified. I am running World Products S/R Torquers. They don't produce as much power as the vortecs but I can run about any intake manifold I want .

The Vortec's came on Trucks so look there. Just be sure to install the correct springs for the cam chosen and make sure to get the correct retainer to seal clearance for the lift that you use.

Are you going to install a roller cam?

They came in late model trucks and surburbans. Look for 906 or 062 in the last three digits of the casting numbers. Be sure that if you get them from a junk yard that they will refund your money if the heads are cracked. Oh and if your going to use that cam make sure your 350 is a roller engine. Good Luck.

That looks like a good cam for this app. You should be able to use the stock size 1.25 diameter springs with that cam. (Not the stock springs though).
Just check for lift clearance. One other thing highly recommended is to go with screw in studs for the rockers. I just bought some for $15 a set and they do not require guide plates so you can stick with the guided rockers if that's what you have planned.

I am running a ZZ4 cam. Specs are as follows. duration at .050 is 208* / 221* , lift is .474"/ .510". I neede to do chip tunning to get it to run correctly. The rest of my mods are in my signature.
