sleeper AC/ K&N TB truck

i believe K & N offers a cold air kit for 350 TB'd truck. i had a problem finding an air cleaner for my 454 TB that would clear the throttle linkage and ended up wit an oval edelbrock. now i ran accross this plastic molded "cold air" K & N. for 350/454 truck TBI. saw it on "trucks" on TV the other day. wonder if adaptable to F body or in my case- vette? ouch $270 !!

I have seen that kit and it is not worth it. You would need to do a lot of fab work. It sits really high and is to bulky to route over the passenger side engine stuff. The modified TPI intake is about as fancy as you can get for our cars unfortunately.

Shifty: any documentation as to what a cold air kit offers? i currently have duct internal in vette hood. prior was fed into crossfire AC at each leteral side. now the hood has outlet is about 4 inches from either side of edelbrock oval/454 TB. looks like i may be sucking some hot air. but currently suffering from cold plenum issues/xram/ no heat to manifold. maybe it will all work out.

I am not sure exactly what your question is. Are you looking for what makes a good cold air kit for our car, how you make the TPI one, or why the truck one won't work?

i had a cold air duct so to speak with the stock design of crossfire and ducting in hood to cross stock AC. now i am installing the 454tb so will lose the ability to use cooler(relatively) air. only AC that would fit was an oval edelbrock. will suck underhood warm air upon install. maybe no big deal. however due to design of heads i have no crossover(edel rpm) and intake is very cold on startup. maybe warm underhood air may help cold engine drivability but surely wont help when intake heat soaked. it appears K&N offers a cold air kit(454TB) but would need to be buchered to fit my configuration. from what i see it would provide adequate hood clearance. filter is on end (cold air side).

I have the kit you are talking about, if its the K&N FIPK. It is way overpriced for what you get. I ended up doing away with the filter on the end of the housing and running flexible tubing out to the supplied cone filter behind the bumper.

I may do away with it if I find the air cleaner I have from Alcon Engineering works better.

i have a vette and am researching a cold air kit for it. i have 454 GM TB installing next week. i will run the edelbrock oval to clear linkage. look sharp(billet alum) but sucks underhood hot air.

Hey Ronny, got any sheel aluminum laying around? I would try to fab up something that would go under the filter you have (between the filter and tb) and up to the ducts in the hood. Kind of a pan that would match up to the hood openings like the stock air cleaner did.
