fuel delay on start-up

I did try searching for this but i couldnt come up with anything! Ok i have a 305 TBI. I also have bypassed the VATS (not with a resistor, i built a signal generator http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c3/70lt1/vats.shtml ). The problem is that the car takes a little while to start (many turnovers) unless it was just recently started. I bought a new coil because i read of someone who put in a new coil and their thirdgen started after a single crank. Anyways that didnt help and now i dont believe it is the ignition system because if i take off the air filter and watch it start, it cranks a bit before the fuel starts spraying, then when it does spray, it sprays in far between pulses, until it starts and has a steady stream. Are the pulses normal? Any ideas on the delay? I was thinking maybe the vats bypass is taking too long to give the ECM the signal that its ok to shoot fuel? Thank you!

It's caused by the pressure regulator leaking fuel back to the tank instead of holding it in the injector pod and fuel line. Try turning your ign switch to the run position for about 3 to 5 seconds before accually cranking the engine over to start the car. It should start up a lot quicker.

Correct. I had the same problem when I put my adjustable regulator on. I let the system prime for a few seconds before I fire her up.

That idea makes perfect sense, but i tried it this morning waiting at least 10 seconds and it did not make a difference. I'm gonna hook up a noid light today after school and see if they are getting the signal as soon as they should or not. This should tell me whether its the fuel delievery system or the electronics. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!!

Heres something else weird. I know theres been lots of posts on bad starting when the engines hot, but this is different... sometimes when i come out to the car after its been sitting for hours in hot weather, it wont start. It cranks and cranks but i get no fuel spray at all. Then if i simply turn the key off and wait a few minutes and try and start it, it works. Something to note is that the car starts fine in the morning (except for the delay i talked about above). Also, if ive been running it for a while (i.e.- the engine is hot) it still starts fine. So why, after sitting in hot weather, does it not spray fuel?

hmm, I'm stumped.

Shifty?
Joker?
Vader?

The only time I got a situation where the car wouldn't start was my buddie's 86 firebird that had the rochestor. That turned out to be the ignition module getting hot and not firing. But that is like apples to oranges when we are talking about no fuel spray....

hooked up the noid light tonight. it was weird, at first for a split second after crank, no light. then a feint flickering for a second and then bright when it finally started. i dont want to offend anyone, but if u dont kno, as far as i know, a noid light hooks up to the plugs for the injectors and lights up based on the duty cycle that the ecm is sending to the injectors. any ideas on either problem? thanks!!

Mine has the same problem. Even if I turn the key on and leave it there for 10 seconds or so it doesn't improve starting time. When my car has just run it fires right up, but the longer it sits the longer the startup time is.

Re: fuel delay on start-up

My car is doing the same thing too. I recently purchased the car "a 91 Camaro with the TBI 305" and replaced the fuel pump relay, the fuel pump and pick up screen. Note the little rubber hose was rotten but replaced it all after getting this far. Now it will start and run at high idle but takes a long time to get it started. Like I said it's doing the same thing any suggestions?
