Not sure about that. I would clean your battery terminals with some sand paper or a wire brush. You could have a bad ground somewhere. Did you re-set the timing correctly when you put the distributor back in?

Okay I was a little confused on that one. I had the small wire that went to the positive terminal disconnected, not the main one.

But yeah, I recently cleaned the terminals and everthing with a dremal tool using the wire brush attachment. They are very clean.

I just don't understand why the power cuts out when I try and start it, then it randomly comes back on by itself.

Sounds like a bad ground. Trace your grounds. You may have a corroded one on your block/head. Now you are sure you set the timing right. I know this may be a different problem but you didn't mention that as part of your intake gasket swap.

Well I don't know why the timing would be off. Like I said after I put the distributor back in place the car ran fine. It wasn't until about a month later until I started having problems. But I will check it.

So you don't think these two problems are related?

I have no idea but I do know that you cannot just put the distributor back in without setting the timing. You just can't and expect it to run right. The computer will compensate a bit to sorta limp along but you have to set it.
