Hey guys, before I changed out my manifold for the edelbrock performer TBI and open element I would get and avg of 26MPG mostly highway. Ever since, I have only gotten an avg of 21/22MPG mostly highway. I have reset the computer several times...what do you think? Does the open element cause me too loose MPG???

You shouldn't really have lost any gas milege from an open element, I've got one on mine and I just got 36mpg on my last road trip. As for the manifold, I'm not sure, but I don't think it would decrease your milege either. If it did, not that much. You MAY subconciously be using you gas pedal a little more frequently...that might just be your problem
Who knows, maybe you're just ready for a good tune-up?!

Did your mileage cahnge beofre or after you did the Performer intake as well? When I had a full exahust and the performer intake I was only getting about 15 or so mpg. The problem is now the tune of the car is way off. I used to get 30+ when the car was stock. Chip work will bring it right back up where it needs to be. It is amazing what little mods throw these cars off.
Yeah, I'm leaning towards what you're saying Shifty because my car has recently had a FULL tune up including fuel filter and throttle body rebuild. Probably needs a tune I guess.

You guys have it all wrong... The car makes so much more HP now that it is just guzzling gas

Just a WAG but the computer adds some fuel with increased IAT temps. Since your cruising in highway mode when your above 50 or so, you may be using more fuel due to the increased intake air temps.

Why would the computer add more fuel with less air?Originally posted by dimented24x7

The bpw multiplier vs IAT tables are set up like that to probably add more fuel to keep the motor out of detonation in hot weather. Also, the tbi "SD" doesnt really know how much air is going into the motor. It only really has MAP readings to work with so if the calibration is off then itll use more gas. The only real indicator of how the fueling is going is via the O2 and the PID algorithm.

you guys....
back off the tune your chip autoanswer
He's just got his foot in it more now that it has that good ol auditory response comming from the SUCK of the lil 1 11/16's
Make it a point to NOT listen to the car, turn your radio up everytime you drive and ease off the throttle a bit and you'll get back to your old mpg...
