A nice multi port set-up can yeild you 300+hp and 30mpg. You may have a hard time trading it in with a blown motor. You may as well keep it on the side and build it up slowly. A dealer won't give you jack for a 3rd gen.

Yeah, dealerships won't give you jack for a 3rd gen....but they'll sell it for $5k when you walk away.

Ill have to argee with everyone else, see this as oportunity, better a bigger and better engine in. Thats what i do when something on mine tears up. My tranny went out and i put a performace tranny in and stall convertor. we just hate to see a fellow thirdgen owner go.

Another one bites the dust. j/k
Good luck.
I'm never getting rid of my car. It'll have to be COMPLETELY wrecked for me to get rid of it. Even then I'll probably take enough off of it to keep the spirit of the red sled alive!
Really though, rusty floor pans... replace in a couple years with aluminum riveted and sealed. Engine needs rebuild... $350 summit rebuild kit and $200 worth of machine and port work on heads, $100 for cam swap and it's back in running harder and stronger than ever. I can't afford to learn another car from scratch, I'm hooked. I've inevested so much time that I could take apart my car in my sleep. If you haven't gotten as deep as me you're lucky, you can now just buy a faster more fuel efficient car, lol. Again, good luck.

I agree. Simplicity is what draws me to these cars. It is like one big "how things work" car, with primitive and basic examples of todays advanced automotive technology. From hard core violent air bags, to caveman fuel injection everything is vanilla with these cars and easy to learn. I have gone the more efficient route (like JP still keeping the 3rd gen for ever) and the learning curve is much slower. You have to take your understanding of how it works on your 3rd gen and then apply 15 years of design change to it.

Heck yeah! The only thing I knew about cars before I bought my camaro was they had 4 wheels and some seats and a button or two. Now my buddies rely on me when something is wrong with their vehicles, simply because owning my Thirdgen has helped me learn SOO much about how things work! Not to mention I've got one of the best pit-crews at my disposal here on TGO!!

Trust me when I say as soon as you get into another car, you will start getting Thirdgen withdrawls....

Keep it. Store it until you can do it right. I've seen too many people get rid of their cars only to wish they had stashed them away until they could rebuild the right way. If you have a place , it won't cost anything but a new cover every couple of years. Like they already said, a dealer won't give you jack for it.

yeah sorry i couldnt write back sooner to update on things... but heres the new situation:
i now own a 2002 cavalier (yes yes i know good swift kick somewhere ) and i still have camaro. i really really really wanna fix it up but esp after down payment and stuff i have no money and it takes me forever to earn enough for anything. but yeah i agree with everyone with learning about cars in that yeah i learned a sh!tload from the 4 tg's we had and im already havin problems with this cavalier (radio was fun to install and i lost door chime and trippy thing where radio shuts off when door opens when its not running) and yeah DEFINATELY 3rd gen withdrawls.
sad thing is tho im gonna hafta let her go along with her almost 21 y/o sister cuz parents are nagging about it. its gonna kill me when shes gone because eventhough i only had her for 9 months now, she meant alot to me, and its always a good feeling knowing you have hundreds of people ready to help as much as they can when they can, and with new one, even though it should be solid for a cupple of years, i feel lost.
i will say this: they are DEFINATELY NOT going to j/y's. im gonna try to find someone who will willingly adopt them and take care of them since i cannot. and if anyone on here is interested i would definately consider you guys b4 anyone else.

iight i gotta go for now i need to work and i just wrote a book
