You have about a solid 200 at the wheels right now. An LT1 cam is a great choice for untouched stock GM cast heads. Before you add the cam I would look into chip burning. Chip tuning is the key to making power with these cars and you are at the point where you could benifit from it. I would take a stab at it now before you get over your head tuning a cam swap. Check out the DIY PROM board to get started.

By the way, TGO welcomes you

for 300 at the wheels your gonna need aftermarket heads, and a pretty big cam. Or more cubes and a decent sized cam and decent heads (vortec or the like)

All of which will require major chip tuning like shifty said.

Welcome aboard!

or... if you want to invest the time... find all the small parts you need used and build from there... you can find a used L98 motor which is a 350 with a somewhat decent set of heads (083's) and a mild cam in it... add an LT1 cam or and LT4 cam with some head work done, or even just better heads and youve got 300hp no problem... all for under 1500 bucks if you do it right...

i want bigger cubes but i got scared to do an engine swap i just put in a t-56 from a 93 after blowing the th700r4 and it was a pain especially doing it in my front yard. so i think i'll just stick with what i got for now and just get the most i can out of it, i've looked into chip tuning but i want everything done before i do that so i won't have to tune it again. i just want this little 305 to keep up with some ls1's and just kill the 5.0 stangs the stangs out here like to talk about how they only have a 302 so being a 305 they can't say it's cause i have a 350.

haha, good luck my friend... if youre going to get a 305 to keep up with an LS1, you had better have lots of time and money... while a 5.0 mustang is a 302, it still has a 4" bore and direct port injection... you, well... dont... i dont mean to be the one to discourage you, but your goal will be difficult and expensive (much more difficult and expensive than doing a motor swap...)

just my

After you have finished all your motor mods you need to lose about 500lbs to 700lbs just to be in the same leage as a stock 5.0 Stang.

yeah the 305 just sucks, but everything is still in the air of what actually is going to happen it just a matter of time and money.
