Without the cat burning off the unburnt fuel, you will get more of a fuel smell out the pipes. You might pull some plugs, and make sure that looks good. I would suspect it is just the lack of a cat though.

does your car still and idle and drive well? I have seen some people that get like a burnspot on there plug wires so that plug just basically misfires or doesn't fire at all, making a pretty good fuel smell out of the pipes from unburnt fuel

yeah she runs drives and sounds great. i am no lonnger worried about it. my friends dakota smells quite a bit the same and he is runnin without a cat as well. it did however die on me when i did some stop and go driving in the city. all the gauges read fine and then all the sudden it just died on me much like it ran out of gas. i tried starting it and it would fire up and then it would instantly die. being that it was in a parking lot i let it sit while i got a bite to eat, afterwards the ol' girl fired up and ran great all the way home (60+ miles). one person told me that they thought it was vapor lock, the heat index had to be close to 100. is this possible? i just recently put an open air intake on it, could this have casused my problem?

If it begins to act strangely again, check the ignition system. I had a coil die on me last Friday.

I don't think that the intake caused any problems. There are many people running the intake like yours. As for vapor lock I would not have a clue. Sorry.
