Throttle body spacer opinions

Any reason I should NOT purchase a throttle body spacer? Does it really provide a noticable increase in HP and gas mileage? Also, I've read that phenolic spacers do not conduct heat like aluminum spacers do, which gives you cooler intake air. Does that sound right? Any reason not to purchase a phenolic spacer?

If better gas mileage was that easy, don't you think they would do it from the factory that way? Car OEMs spend millions on R&D just to get a 0.5% increase in mileage

In theory they work. Quantifying reality is up to you. Every little bit of plenum volume that you gain correlates to power making potential. On a stock LO3 it is often better to spend the money elsewhere until that last little bit of plenum volume keeps you from a desired result. I don't believe anyone has track data or dyno data to support their worth on TBI set-ups. I can tell you from experience that you will not feel any difference and or see any gains at the pump. It doesn't mean it is worthless it just means that I am not ready for it yet. I have not pieced my combo together well enough to tune around it and to obtain data to deem its worth.
