IAC

Take it out ... take it apart.. clean it.. GENTLY.. do not soak it in carb cleaner ... now oil the pindle shaft etc just lightly.. put it back in... and see

IAC can cause H A V O C !!!

I fixed my car problem just today .... the damn IAC wire connector is somewhat broken... I played with it .. again... and now the car idles nice and smooth...

Hmmm let me get ya that link for the IAC adjustments

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=227281

Scroll down ... and you'll see the post... called something like

"I need to adjust my IAC"

The IAC problem on my car made my idle go to 1800-2100 rpm ... and pumped gas into the TBI like crazy

well i cleaned it and lubed it a little. it snot clicking like it was. but that didnt fix my prob. still backfiring, dying, idling way low. the only code i got is a 43; electronic spark junk... i think i just need a carb and hei... im tired of fighting this thing.

The code 43 will cause the backfiring and poor performance.

The IAC could likely be the low idle. Id say you may want to replace it. It sounds as though it could have been damaged. Make sure the seat for the IAC in the tbi base is clean before you install the new one.

As far as the code 43, when does it set? Does it only set when you get on it? Or, does it set while your just driving?

after school, i drove to autozone. i pulled off both my ign. module and tps to get them checked... both came back good. i thought a little fuel cleaner and some good gas would help. it actually seemed to a little. but that can't be my problem.

i was searching the boards for similar problems. and i ran across a few posts that pointed towards the fuel pump. if i check the fuel pressure, how much should i be getting (min. and max.)? also where should i check it?

ive got to get on it to get it to go anywhere. but it more or less, its soon after a backfire, or a huge bogging-down session. i usually feel the hestitation right before it backfires so ill let off then.

RUNNIN LIKE A CHAMP!!!

hahaha, im so happy. ive never had this much power from this car since ive had it. i will explain why...

u know that connector that needs unhooking when setting timing? of course you do. ive always disconnected it while timing, then reconnected after i set it. i never could tell a difference after hooking it up. but i always did it because i was suposed to.

and i was pretty sure this problem had to be wiring, if the sensors were good. so i was checking wiring all over the car. ended up being that the wire came loose from the connector.
so i am guessing it would work correctly sometimes and not other times, which is why ive been so confused.

first time since i owned this girl, that shes ever spun dry tires!!!(EDIT: tire...)

the only thing now is she still dies on start-up unless i give her a little gas then ease it down to idle. any idea what this might be? not a big deal. i cant wait to find some of them r!cers that smoked me before. man what a difference the timing makes! im so happy i didnt have to buy a 30 or 40 dolloar sensor too.

Glad to hear you got it working. Im surprised that didnt set a 42 instead. The ecm checks for that on startup/run and sets codes accordingly.

As far as it dying on startup, does it only do it cold? Or is it both cold and warm?
