I don't have a picture of the EST connector, but I can describe it as best as I can (CarDomain is down at least until Sunday, so no pics). It's in the wiring harness that runs from in front of the AC box down towards the battery, right next to the strut tower. Just trace that wiring loom up near the AC box where it splits into 3 seperate wire looms, and it should be right there. With a black single-wire weatherpack connector with a black/tan wire. Disconnect it, and then you can check and/or set the timing.

There's usually nothing to adjust on a timing light. You just hook it up to the battery and #1 spark plug wire, and aim the light at the balancer. If the timing needs to be adjusted, loosen the distributor hold down bolt and turn the distributor until the timing is where you want it.

If you need/want a refresher on checking and adjusting timing, just check out the "New to TBI" sticky:
Finally, you will want to check your timing. The factory setting says to but it at 0* but most stock LO3’s like a bit more. This is a trial and error procedure and you will find that most LO3’s prefer anywhere from 4* to 8* advanced. Some like more and some like less and a little timing bump can increase fuel mileage, throttle response, and power. You may have to run a higher octane fuel though so you will have to consider that. After the car has received a full tune up you can start to consider your first modifications.

Great thread with picture on how to get the degree of timing you want

OK, I think I see what your asking now.

Scroll down about halfway down this thread to see a really good pic of the timing tab and what degree timing is where:

There is a pic of the EST wire in the "LT1 cam digest. The timing tab has points on it that represent a degree of timing. There are numbers on it to tell you which is which. When you have the timing gun hooked up you will see a flash when the #1 cylinder fires. The flash will be quick and you will be able to see where the groove in the balancer in relation to the timing tab. If you are at 0° base you will see the groove right at the 0° marm on the tab when the light flashes. You turn the distributor counter clockwise or clock wise to increase or decrease the timing. The groove will then light up at your new setting. It helps to put a little white paint on the balncer groove to help when reading it.

Grab some real nice big gloves (I used welding gloves) and turn the damn pulley by hand the last little bit

Oh in case no one has mentioned it ...

LET THE ENGINE WARM UP !!!!

My engine runs at 1500+ rpm for the first two minutes .. something I didn't think about when I first tried setting my timing

Sometimes patience is a good thing ... too bad I lack it sometimes

Does the spark plugs need to go in the right order like the 1 one in the 1 spot on the dist. cause i hook the timing light up and it was showing that the timing was like 1 1/2 farer then the timing tab (adv.). I know that i don't have the 1 spark plug wire hook to the 1 spot on the dist. so should i run the lead wire of the timing light to the 1 spot on the dist. then?

You need to have the timing light hooked as close the the #1 plug on the #1 wire as possible. This is assuming you have the motor firing in the order that it needs to be. You also need to unplug the EST before you check the base timing. Otherwise you will get an inaccurate reading.
