Turbo TBI and Projects Changing
Well, I sold my Weiand Blown 396 small block that was nearing completion for $1000.00 more than I had into it to a friend that offered me $4,500 for everthing as it set and I couldn't resist. Machined roller cam 2 bolt main block converted to 4 bolt main, complete balanced rotating assembly, weiand 142 blower, Dart Iron Eagle 230 heads, crane OEM style roller cam, hooker super comp truck headers, a GM HEI distributer with a turbo Corvair vacuum advance/pressure retard, + a 301 Turbo TA non-computer Q-Jet Carb, + some things I am forgetting.
I was also offered $1000 for the 454 TBI from the van I bought for $400. The guy doesn't even want the TBI stuff or the accessories, just the long block. Lets just say it is sold.
Where does that leave me?
Well my project is about to be a Draw-Through Turbo TBI 305 Van.
It is loosely based around the old 70s drawthrough turbo kits for the 350 chevy. Basically mount the turbo close to the intake, sandwich an adapter between the intake and carb (TBI in this case), route the exhaust to the hot side and the intake to the cold side. Then plumb up some oil lines. To elimate turbo-lag, the adapters used manifold vacuum to open a bypass valve inside dubed the PRIORITY valve, when open the A/F mixture passed straight through the adapter and bypassed the turbo. When the engine became loaded, the turbo would spool up, manifold vacuum would drop, and the valve would close.
I have a set of stock 193s with 65cc chambers to put on it. The boost will be held at about 10 psi or so. I am planning to run either a turbo cam or the old L82 cam again. This TBI 305 MAY have a 400 RWHP pull in it through a stock 454 TBI unit, stock swirl port 350 heads, cast iron exhaust manifolds, a small cam, TBI, and from miniscule displacement.
I already have a 2-bar sensor up and running on it, so that is taken care of already.

Well, I just use my spare time wisely.
As far as parts, I get tons of them off of Ebay.
Edit-
I am single, don't have kids, live in a house with a huge garage and a shop, work in a shop Monday-Friday from 8-6, have the weekends off, my shop provides uniforms, I have very little other chores to do.

Awesome project, should be cool to see how well the Ultimate TBI code handles a boosted app. Got any pictures of the turbo you're going to use? This drawthrough setup sounds really cool. When are you planning on having this running by? Good luck!

I do not own the kit yet. I will probably have to fabricat alot of the pieces to make it fit. I was just saying that I plan to model the final product after some 70s designs with newer parts. I've got some pictures from several Ebay auctions that I looked at. Don't worry they are not linked to the auction, but rather I saved them and will upload them.
Keep in mind that neither of the kits shown will fit my application.
This is what I am trying to achieve. There is atleast one Turbo van.
PS- I plan to use the nitrous control on the EBL to select between a normal around town boost setting and a RACE mode. I am thinking about maybe setting it up to run at 5 PSI, then have a solenoid control a second boost controller to go to say 10 PSI.

The adapter plate for this one, minus a priority valve (which I feel is necessary on a draw-through for a good smooth idle, snappy N/A response, fuel mileage, and just good all around low-speed/load operation)
Notice that it is built for a Q-Jet. Don't worry though, I have an aluminum GM intake for a 1987 LG4 and a Water Heated Q-Jet-TBI adapter from a 454 Truck to mount my 454 TBI.
Crazy as it may be, I am trying to tuck it under the stock Doghouse cover AND keep the factory style air cleaner (have a shorter K&N filter and lid from my S15 Jimmy that fits the housing like a champ).

What he was able to do with an otherwise stock 350/TH 350/ 3.08 gear.
That is a WRX.
