Video of two TBI wide open cars and open element
Video shows two wide open 91 Camaros. Also shows what an open element sounds like I know a lot of people are curious about that.

same thing crrllmich said. my 89 formula had one of those triangular shaped edelbrock open elements on it, and it also had an 84 l69 hood with the solenoid controlled cold air duct (not sure how the hood got on their in the first place) but that engine was responsive as hell. absolutely no lag and loud as a bastard.
i ditched that open element for a summit 14x3 when i got my trans am and its alot quieter, i think it was becasue the old one was just sitting ontop of the TB collar as opposed to being bolted down with the summit piece.

Mine became 'pleasantly' loud from the front when I put the open air element on it. I have this theory that stock turndown pipes are more restrained sounding than the straight pipes (that I want).
Listen for yourself.
If I got rid of the turn downs and went straight out, I am sure they would sound louder (better?).

Supposedly its a Flowmaster muffler. The muffler is extremely small. It's a cat-back system, or so I was told from the previous owner. Here is a picture of it:

Just a single chamber flowmaster...
I don't think Flowmaster ever offered their 1 chamber mufflers with a complete cat-back exhaust system.

What I don't understand is why flowmaster mufflers are so popular. Yes, they sound good but with the metal dividers for the "chambered" effect placed directly in front of the flow of exhaust they creat huge amounts of backpressure that increases with throttle.

I believe it was a custom cat-back job. The pipes aren't madril (sp?) bent like I have seen in bolt in applications. The pipes have the same bends as the Y-pipe, like they were squished together almost. I've just always assumed the previous owner had a shop put it in. However, lately, I have been wondering if it really is cat-back or not.
And yea, I've noticed the large amounts of white smoke. Since that video I have installed the smog pump (being in CA sucks!) and the amount of smoke has diminished quit drastically. We believe we are burning water. When I got the car, the motor was blown. The previous owner ran the motor so long on very little oil. When he went to check the oil there was only a 1/4 of a quart of oil in the motor. So we got a different block and put the heads on from that blown motor. We never checked the heads so they might have a crack in them or don't sit right on the block which is why we may be burning water. The white smoke goes away after running the car for a few minutes.
