Upgrade Ignition system?
I was thinking of ordering some new high performance parts to the ignition system.
I was browsing around summitracing and found Taylor wires for the 305 TBI over the valve cover style. I believe they are 10.4mm wires, I don't really have much of a problem with burning my plug wires, the plug wires I have on the car as is are fine but they are old.
I recently replaced my distributor cap and rotor for cheapie ones because I didn't have the money at the time to go out and buy MSD.
But again, as I was searching online I found out that Summit sells a cap/rotor/ICM altogether in a set for like 65-70 dollars I believe.
It's MSD all around, but the plug wires would be Taylors.
This is the part number to the plug wires set, TAY-79238- not only do I think it will clean up my engine bay giving it a more cleaner look, but I believe these wires should have stronger conductors. And the wires themselves may fix any fault I have within the electrical system.
The Distributor cap and rotor kit with the ICM as well is either gonna be this PRO-66945RC
or Summit's own brand SUM-850030
With all of this in set, I should have a much more responsive ignition system then what I have on there now. The reason why I am doing this is to not see if I can gain any power (why would I, they're plug wires) but to free up or give the car a smoother feel to it and more responsiveness.
All in all, the whole thing out the door should cost me about 130 bucks. What do you guys think?

you main problem will be that that kit is not for our cars. the HEI ignitions with the coil up top apearantly have clearance problembs on our cars, sooo, they put the coil next to the distributor. you'll see a short wire coming off the center of the distributor down to a box thats about half-hidden by the air box, thats our coil. MSD sells a "Blaster" replacement for that. i got one for about 60 bux at autozone, but havent put it in cause, well.. im lazy.
if your ignition system is old, a new set of plugs and wires will definitly help, and a larger set of wires and hotter coil will help make power with future mods as you get more fuel and air in the chamber, but i couldnt forsee an L03 ever needing anything bigger than an 8-8.5mm wire.
also, if you wanna feel somethin from your ignition, try advancing your timing. you'll pick up some throttle response, and it sounds cooler, too. only drawback to that is possibly having to use higher octane fuel (i have to use 93) to prevent knock.

Six of one, half dozen of the other.
Bump an old thread that's on the topic he needs to know about, or start a new thread on this topic for the 100th time and get bitched at for not using search to find an old thread.

I'd rather have a few zombie threads come back from the grave, than to NOT have people searching before they post.
The important thing for our Year 2020 poster, is that MSD sells crappy coils with a high failure rate; you're better off with the original coil. If the original has been tested and isn't working properly, the Treasure Yards are full of 'em.
I grab Genuine GM ignition modules, coils, distributors, alternators, starters any time I happen to be at the Treasure Yard and see something interesting. MSD can keep their Made-In-China garbage. The few coils they actually make that work good, are REALLY expensive.
