Is this new throttle body junk?
Well I have almost 180,000 miles on the clock and my throttle body is looking rough and I am sure the guides in it are trash and that could be why it whistles. I have been debating between this or the turbo city throttle body because even though this is cheaper, I dont think this guy makes the blades bigger like turbo city does. I know most of you say not to waste money, but there are no decent TBI's in my local junkyard and I would know this one is fresh. I will probably bolt up a AFPR at the same time. What do you guys have to say?

I would just get a TBI rebuild kit, a few new sensors, and a can of carb cleaner. A turbo city TBI unit is not needed right now and would require chip work to dial it in. The stock TBI unit is more than capable of supporting the stock power level.

With the throttle body, the wear on the base around the shaft prevents the throttle closing all the way because the TV cable, throttle cable, and return springs force it off-center. This will cause a high idle. If you let it close all the way, the throttle gets stuck. With a fresh base, the throttle will be able to close properly, and give smoother action since the throttle blades arent hanging up on the bores. It would probably also be a good idea to use the same size TBI, unless you plan for mods. A larger unit may be too big for a stock 305.
A good test for the condition of the base is to open the throttle by hand 1/4 of the way and try to move the throttle shaft around. If theres alot of play, then it may be time for a fresh base. If it feels ok, then spend your money on something else.
