Holley TBI + 350 + Stock computer =

A crappy running car below 4 grand.

Just bought the car, 89 RS..New 350, mild cam, vortec heads, holley TBI unit etc.

Also has MSD 6AL.

Anyways, between 4k and 6k it pulls decently.

I found a couple vacuum leaks, sealed them up and it idles/runs alot smoother now. But when going full throttle at low rpms it just doesn't seem to want to rev all that well.

So, I start snooping around, pull the PCM out and see that its the stock pcm, open it up and it has a superchip in it.

So, I figure thats probably most of the problem. Should I try to have a custom prom burned or should I try to find the holley PCM on ebay or something? Or any other ideas are appreciated.

Also, I was thinking about maybe ditching the TBI for a carb, but since it has the holley unit I'm willing to play with it a lil bit.

Only way you'll ever get it to run right is to learn to burn your own chips. With the modifications done to that motor I'm surprised it even runs. That combo should be good for an easy 300 hp, right now I'd be surprised if you were making 200. Learn to burn, once you make the leap you'll wonder how you ever tuned without it.

I would love to learn to burn proms for it, but I honestly have no idea where to start when it comes to that.

I seriously think I'm going to ditch it for a carb, I know how to tune those.

What a cop out I put some $$$ into my TBI with tuning equipment and an EBL set up and I am glad I did. Nothing better than cruising with a full readout giving the total condition of the engine. It gives you the ability to get that tune zeroed right the **** in without guessing. Its not that hard to pick up. Takes a bit of dedication but things really start fitting together pretty quick. But hey, do whatever you want.

The software is free, the burner is 85$ and the adapter and chips are around 50$. You might want to check out the stickies for a step by step walk through of how to tune your chip.

x2!

Seriously, it's not that hard. Shoot if I can learn how, anybody can.

1st read then re-read the stickies in the DIY PROM section, then use the search engine.

2nd, dive in!

If I may offer another route for the equipment, get a Prominator. It's a flash based chip that allows you to "burn" a new tune without having to remove, erase, burn, and reinstall the chip everytime you make a change. That way all you will need is some free software and a couple of cables aside from your laptop.

Or you could get the autoprom from Craig Moates and tune realtime without every shutting the engine off. These things are nice but entirely unnecessary.

From far your like....DDDAAAMMMNNN thats a nice IROC and then you get closer and realize the cowl and then you say HOLY SHYT. LMAO. I cant wait. Sorry this is off topic too but I had to let everyone know.
