That was probably me...

I just recently finished installing a set of ported Aluminum L98 heads, Torker II intake, 670cfm throttle body, 1.6 roller rockers...I think that's about it...

It's not running right and I'm working on burning my own chips to fix the problem, but much to my disgust my programmer I ordered was defective. I'm currently waiting on a new one.

Well, they are and they aren't at the same time.

The Vortec heads are cast iron and the Vette heads are aluminum--advantage vette.
The Vortec heads flow more air than the Vette heads (but not alot)--advantage Vortec.
The Vette heads have 58cc combustion chambers the Vortecs have 64cc, this is completely application specific--no advantage.
Vette valve-springs will take .500-.550, depending on year, the Vortecs will take .450--advantage Vette.
Vette heads use the standard carbeurated intake bolt pattern, Vortecs use Vortec specific bolt pattern--advantage Vette.
Vortec heads are $420/set Vette heads are $770/set--advantage Vortec.

No...thank you . I got in touch with the programmer people and my programmer should be here tomorrow. I'll get it running right, throw the G-Tech at it, and post some times on here so anyone who's interested can see what it's worth.

Thought of another Vette advantage, Vette's have screw in rocker studs, Vortec's have pressed in studs...

I had ported Vette heads, Crane Compucam, Edelbrock 2101 carb intake, TBI adapter, Holley 670TBI, 1.6 roller tip rockers, headers, 3" catback, Centerforce clutch, 3.73 posi and MSD/Accel ignition on my last '92 RS 305.

After going through a few "custom" chips, it finally ran "well". It always ran rich no matter what I did. With all of the mods, the car really hauled A-S-S! I never timed it, but it had to be in the high 13-low 14 second range. It spun up to 6,000rpms all day and could smoke the tires through 1st & 2nd.

With the huge amount of cash I spent on the 305 and the year of tuning it took to get it right, I have decided to go a different route with my new RS as my sig indicates:

------------------
'92 RS, ZZ4 10:1 350, Edelbrock 6085 heads, Crane 208/214 467/482 cam, GM/LT4 1.6 true roller rockers, Holley Projection TBI intake, Holley 670 TBI, SLP/Jet-Hot 1-5/8" headers, Catco 3" cat, Flowmaster 3" catback, Hughes 2500 stall converter, stock 700R4, Auburn Pro posi w/3.42, 17x9" SS rims w/BFG tires, Medium Quasar Blue w/white SS stripes, 48,000 miles....

Yeah, eventually I plan on putting a bigger short block under my heads and stuff. I might put a cam into the 305 before I replace the block, I haven't decided yet. I've got this uncontrollable urge to see what I can get out of the 305.

On the short block issue, I'm having trouble deciding between a 383 and a 355, and pre-87 or post-87 engine block (I've already got the pre-87 here at the house, but used blocks are cheap).
