i want more high end and less low.
what do i do, besides run something like straight off my headers.
that would do it right? as if i knew. i dont. please correct or confirm me.
cam choice to kill lowend. (idle to 1500)?
shorter manifold would do it right. big headers?
hmmm. just curious here. thanks

why would you want less low end? You should want more at every end and everywhere in between.
If you want a high strung motor get a 283 or 302 and rev the crap out of it. These high strung engines need big gears and the bigger the gear in a 10 bolt,or any rear, the weaker (physicly) they become. And high strung engines don't like automatic trannies because autos rev as low as possible all the time. The 302 wasn't even offered with an auto back then.
Its hard to get a 305 to rev high because its layout is for torque. small bore, long stroke = torque. Big bore short stroke = high reving, good hp
You could get a 305 to rev high(6500+), but the rod velocity would be very high and need strong rods and pistons. and you couldn't keep the roller cam because they don't like reving over 6500. You could squeeze some more RPM out with a hydra rev kit.
Considering all these things its why the trend has gone from high strung(283, 301, 302, 327) big MPG wasting engines to big torque(350, 383, 400, 406) engines.

i just wana change my setup on the 305 i have now enough that i can rev higher, and still pull to say 6k but not spin the tires for 40 feet when i hit the gas.
i think part of my traction prob is i think my rear trailing arm busshings are gone. at least thats what my tech told me. it just feels like i got side to side movement when i go around curves/corners. i cant hit the gas more than half an incha and my tires spin. factor could also be that 454 tbi caused lag stops right were converter flashes up. so its like i gotta high stall or something.
so il refrase the ?. how do i adjust on this 305, slightly the characteristics of the tourque and hp curves so that i pull to 6k but dont burn rubber for 40 feet if i mash the gas. mind you these are 2.73's lighting up the tires all the time.

You can light ur tires up for 40 feet with 2:73's? Or are u exagerating? Before messing with the hp/tq why don't u try traction mods instead? Like Posi, that was a great one for me. And wider tires, aftermarket lower control arms, 16x8 rims. Stuff like that should REALLY improve your traction.
buy a torque arm, LCAs, and or get better tires.

Here's a thought - how about a limited slip differential? Are both tires spinning, or just one?
Also, consider just retarding your camshaft. Cloyes sells multi-key-way timing sets for around $20, and you will gain some top end and trade a little low-end for it.

how hard would it be to setup that camshaft timing thing.
i think ive covered the limited slip thing. its a 92. and i dont show any posi ##s on my production sheet / window sticker. But, i know both spin. but lets not worry about that. i just want to trade a little power from one end to the other, i dont care about launches or anything like that yet, so for now, since most of my driving is interstate at 70. i would like to have a little more pull at that speed. ill look into that set. thanks a lot man
