I've gotta ask, what is your secret to such a clean engine compartment? Oh yeah, to answer your question just grab it between your thumb and forefinger and twist. If that doesn't work try a hacksaw and just cut the air cleaner stud off just below the wingnut

The pulley's can be found on junkyard cars, or at the dealership. It doesn't have to be a 1LE to have it, "2thpick's" is an RS and he has one.

i odnt know exactly what i am running in the 1/4. as of right now, i am probably around 14.2, but i need a few important things.
that is with 2.73s and only one wheel spinning, with crappy tires. and i still have a stock chip.
as soon as spring rolls around though i am getting my 3.73s and a limited slip differential, and some bfgoodrich comp ta zrs, so that should help a LOT. eventually i will get a custom chip made or make one myself, but right now its just too much of a hassle. i'll take care of the big things first.
and about the engine compartment...its not as clean as it looks. yeah, the engine and everything is very clean. just about every single part bolted to that motor is new. the blue parts you see though (the firewall, fenders, etc. could use a little freshening. hopefully next fall when the car goes off the road again, i am going to pull the motor and trailor it somewhere and have the whole engine compartment repainted. that will make a big difference.
thanks again guys...i appreciate it, it feels pretty dman good to have all this work (and money) pay off!

What does your car run like? 2thpick needs an engine, he'll probably get a new GM engine this spring, he's planning on getting another L03 so he won't have any compatability trouble.
Last week he said he was still just going to drive his car on the weekends when he gets his new engine. I thought he was planning on driving it everyday when he got it back on the road.
I've been trying to convince him to pay 40 more dollars and get the caprice L05. Do you think he would have a lot of trouble getting it to run satisfactory enough to drive 2 or 3 days a week?
So far what I've advised him to do is get a 350 knock sensor and some cheap stock 350 injectors, then when he's ready buy the Holley 670 for it. He plans on getting headers when it's time for the engine whether he goes 305 or 350.

it runs fine actually...even with the stock chip. i mean i put 3400 miles on it from june 1 to october 1. i drove it almost every day, unless it was raining.
what motor does he plan on getting? i mean, if i can get this thing running really well without a chip, i think teh L05 wouldnt be a problem at all.
about the 350 knock sensor..i dont think that there is a difference. i have a stock replacement for the one in my old 305. i went to like 5 different parts places and tehy all told me that the 305 and 350 had the same one. if i remember right, i had them look up the part numbers and there were the same from engine to engine.
now the price...well, its kinda scary...ill see what i can remember..
2100 engine
200 intake
300 throttle body
200 misc. engine crap i had to get (fasteners, balancer, etc..)
75 air cleaner assembly and filter
75 valve covers
400 headers
100 new accessory brackets (old ones were dirty
)
75 new power steering pump (dirty again)
200 new pulleys and belt
375 all new ignition
200 new water pump, both radiator hoses, thermostat housing
100 all new sensors
so far that is $4350, and there are a few more things. plus the HOURS AND HOURS i spent doing it. and i mean HOURS AND HOURS.
hmm...almost there...all i need is the tires and the rear end..thats only another 2 grand...haha the credit card companies LOVE me.

dude! you put all that on credit. DAMN.
thanks for the breakdown though, ive always wondered how much it would cost to just yank it all and startover from scratch.

visit my webpage and go to my car, at the bottom is a flash link to my engine swap plans. I think I figured everything out, if I'm missing something or you know a part number please let me know so I can finish the whole thing. www.crosswinds.net/~jprevost
