13 Second TBI

I friend of mine has a 1991 RS, T-56, 4.11's, 14X3 open element, head job, Torquer II (?) manifold and Borla exhaust. Okay this is about what a lot of people have. Today he picked me up and he just got a G-Tech, we were playing around with it for some time, and he was running alot of 14.2's and 14.3's. We hit one and the car didn't feel any stronger but in the -10 degree weather the GTech said 13.9! Is this just it being stupid or is that one fast LO3? He has had it since it was new. There is about 60k on it... Nothing more then what is above.. Some one please explain this to me!

60k is in its prime, depending on the head job, and the 5speed with 4.11 and the intake, yes, it could be true. G-techs are accurate. and air that cold, is like having 4psi of boost.

you gotta get that thing to a track!!! i am impressed if it is true, i would be shocked if the stock cam could take on that manifold with any success.

I have a very hard time thinking he has a stock cam. WTF did he do to that car? I'm thinking NJSpeedster has a run for his money. If he doesn't go to the track then he's stupid, 60K miles is new compared to the old 150K plus engines on this board.

Dale Earnhart, you have done so much, you will be missed.

Okay look at my sig, I have a little more then him when it comes down to it. I have 70k on my car. Only thing he has over me is he has 4.11's and I have 3.73 but last summer when we ran aginst each other I was about two cars ahead at about 100mph (ruffly quarter mile) I plan on hitting the track this summer so I can give you my times. Also too, it was very cold out side so I'm sure that helped. Now are most of you guys running an auto?? There as a test done not that long ago in Chevy Performace and it was posting that you got .5 seconds quicker in the qt/mile with a stick. So if NJ ran a 14.2-.5 your looking at 13.7. The T-56 has a little better gearing then the T-5 also. I noticed I was in the power bands a little more (with mine) and also 1st is lower. The cenerforce really helped too. Why do you guys not run sticks or are you running a shift kit of some kind? Also how much set up do you guys do when you go out to the track (ie. tire pressure, timing, fuel)

i hate to burst the old "sticks are quicker" bubble again, but that hasn't been true in 15 years or more. especially by that much, if you want proof just look at when they test new cars in the magazines, the auto will almost always get there first and the stick will come through the traps with a bigger mph.
that does sound like a good run for me though, i'd better get my *** in gear if i'm gonna stay king of the hill around here
maybe you can come to my event, East Coast F-Body Nationals, and we can have a little war. i will take any n/a 305(or close rebuild,310,315) tbi here on in a best 2 out of 3 dual. of course by then i hope to be in the 12's so you'd all better come armed

Humm that may be true, what I found (some where on this site I might add) was they were testing it on a 1999 Camaro V6. They were posting times of I think around 15.5 with the stick and 16.0 with the auto if I recall.. It was in the drivetrain board (I think) I will see if I can find it. Also too there was a big debate in Chevy Performace about it too. What are you guys doing then to improve you lauches (I asume stall coverters), better shift points (lockouts?) but then still a shift kit for the quickness of the shifts? When I take out my 82Z I can tell that its not doing "the best it could" and I know if it was a stick I could do a hell of a lot better. So that kinda goes in to what should I do for that car/what are you guys doing. Thanks for your input... I'll be running in May on the 1/4 and hopefully I will make it to the 1/8 in early April (once the snow is gone and the car is out of storeage)

There is less power lost in the form of heat on the way to the rear wheels with a stick.

That is why most people say sticks are quicker, plus the driver decides when the car should be shifted with a stick that helps a lot.
