A 3inch open element
Flowmaster 80 series Muffler
Posi rear
3:73 rear gears
Trans-go Shift KIT
And an Aftermarket Chip. Ill spend the 125 or whatever they are.

With these mods will I have a chance against this BUSTANG??!? Thanks GUYS!

Headers are a must. Then you'll be close but if he has done many mods to his 5.0 then you're going to need:
1.Intake manifold
2.Heads
3.Cam
4.Because you want to kill him you'll probably go with a pretty big cam so a larger TB would help as long as you've done the exhaust upgrades.
Don't go too big of a cam, the 305 has small bore so it wouldn't help.
Now if you don't plan on sticking with the 305 then let him has his fun for a while then get a crate 350 swap for $3000 total and run mid to low 13's all day.
If you're looking for something easy then NO2 is an option but that gets messy and then even if you do race and win he'll just say it's because of the No2 (duh!) and will blow you off. Besides, No2 doesn't do so well in our cars, many still run in the 14's.

You will need headers and a full 3" exaust system with them gears if u want to come close to beating him. Posi will help a lot too and the little stuff like the chip and open element will give u a little more too.
BTW: That TransGo shift kit is awesome, that will help u a lot and match his 5 speed when it comes to shifting, but u will need that posi in order to keep the wheels from spinning while shifting into second.

5.0 LXs are lighter and faster than GTs. What are you telling this guy? (<---- response to Snflupigus who cheated by deleting his own post lol)

Before I started helping my friend mod his 88GT I use to beat him all through 1st gear becuase of all the torque we have but then I fell on my face on the top end and he took off. So try opening the top end. exaust, intake...

most mustangs only run mid 14's. that in no way requires a cam or heads or intake to do. with a good exhaust, including headers and a 3 inch cat, and a shift kit with a 2400 stall converter you should be able to run that kinda of a number. the ultimate tbi stuff would make it an even better race. most street stangs run between 14.4 and 14.7, and slower with a bad driver.
kepp it simple and you can own mustangs on the street.

with the mods in my signature below I routinely beat 5.0 mustangs(gt or lx). If you do get the mods your talking about your going to need bigger tires. don't forget, that when your talkiing about cars within up to 1 second of each other in e.t the start can make enough difference to win the race for the slower car.

eric is right about a shift kit improving ur ET's alot but by no means will it match a 5 spd. The biggest advantage of a 5 spd is that 5 th gear that helps the car stay in its power band alot better. I would say 3.73s, a posi unit, a good exahaust and a shift kit and u should take him.

BTW dont list ur air cleaner as a mod. If u raced him with an open element and raced him with OEM set up u wouldnt see a difference.

ya one or two tenths of a second is kind of hard to notice when you are a about foot away from someone doing 70 on a empty street.

lol ya ok, 2 tenths from an air cleaner. lol uh huh ill tell ya what guys, IF someone can show me a time slip that proves a solid 2 tenth of a second increase in performance from an aircleaner than ill buy one tomorrow. Thats like saying the open element gives u 20 rwhp.

I could have sworn someone did a run with it and without it and got .1. Maybe we can make a new post asking about it. Its not that far fetched to believe an 5.0L engine would breathe better through and open element vs a stock aircleaner with a much smaller filter that gets air from a 1x2" snorkel. But for arguments sake I think it would make more of a differeance on a Formula vs. an RS for a couple reasones. 1. my open element is right next to my open part of the hood which could easily be sealed to the opening. I'll probably do that when school gets out. 2. the "scoupe" on the end of a stock air cleaner snorkel has more air to grab from a Camaro's big headlight light recess vs. the more areodynamic Firebirds.

NJ SPEEDER, you say he doesn't need heads to beat a 5.0 mustang with who knows what kind of mods. Even though you HAVE heads you are running even with most street 5.0's. Thier engines were designed for hp and since they have a lighter car they take advantage of the hp and need less torque. The 5.0 has the same size bore as the chevy 5.7 and that is why they are dangerous and usually eat chevy 5.0's for lunch. My friend has an 89 GT, only mod is a new clutch and headers. The thing did a 14.4 in the 1/4 first time out. I really think you need heads to get by a 5.0 on the street, it's just a proven fact that they came from factory faster with the better bore to stroke ratio. I know it could be done with stock L03 "swirl port" heads but it's just going to be the biggest bottle neck in the whole system.
