Splitfire Plugs?

Rumor has it that the TBI tends to waste a small amount of fuel. Would Splitfire plugs help ignite every drop of fuel injected? Has anyone ever used them?

Not sure about splitfire plugs man. I used Rapidfire plugs and I liked them a lot. But I think a plug is a plug. I would get some AC Delco. That should be good enough for our cars.

It's a joke. A plug is a plug. If it sparks it sparks. Then the "hotter" the spark the better the burn. That is why the plug doesn't matter and why the HEI distribs are a must. More voltage = better spark and the MSD controls can even produce multiple sparks to really burn all the fuel. That's basically it.

Groovy, thanks guys. I figured those were just a gimmick.

What about platinum tipped plugs?

I would either get the AC Delco rapidfires or some Bosch Platinum 4+ plugs. I have heard great things about both. I have heard nothing but bad things about the splitfires. Apparently they burn way to hot and it is not good for our TBI cars which run hot to begin with. Splitfire products are way overrated. that is my two cents

i don't know about the spitfire plugs, but i've used the bosch platinum tipped plugs, and i occasionally got "check engine" lights when i used thoose. i think it was for lean exhaust. anyway's i would just use plain old ac delco or something basic. more voltage is the key. I now use a jacobs ignition which uses some plain old plugs that are specially gapped. very noticeable improvment in power delivery, very smooth. they gauruntee a 11.3 hp increase and 10% better fuel economy or your money back. I still have it on my car...

Just get some regular AC delco's man. I only got the rapidfires because they were free from someone we knew at the shop. But if you want to spend the money then I would suggest Rapidfire's just because there AC Delco and they make the best parts.

yeah go with the AC Delcos..I have the Rapidfires, but I HAD to buy them because nobody in New York State had the frieking plugs that GM recommended for my crate engine. I had to cross reference them with the Rapidfires because they were readily available.

I think I read it either on v8fbody.com or the Formula source. Both are sites like this one and have message boards and tech articles, etc.

Maybe I imagined it.

I use Splitfire spark plugs in my 305hp 327 '68 Chevy II and they gave excellent throttle response. They were a definite step up from regular AC delco's. Don't get Bosch platinums, I run them in my Iroc 305 TBI and they run worse than the crusted NGK's I pulled out. But the choice all depends on your budget and how the plugs will be used.

I replaced regular ac delco's today with rapid fires. There was a noticeable difference in excelleration. Nothing to knock your socks off, but every little bit helps.

Splitfire plugs are made by Autolite.Tey take the ribs out of the insulator and "split" the electrode.
My experience as an engine builders lays it first hand.
I saw an increase of 5 hp on a 500inch Big Chief Rat but only for 3 Dyno pulls on a water brake. The electrode does not last under these conditions and leaves me to wonder what they do under day to day abuse,as most of us are driving these cars.
I run NGK V-powers(just like my dirt bike)and they show no wear even after 15,000 miles of hard abuse(ever change plugs with Edelbrock headers?).

I used split fires ONCE. And never again. I had a 355 that I had built. Was a very strong engine. Reliable for 20K miles. I installed split fires without changing anything else. The engine ran extremely lean and hot. I had to put bigger jets ine the carb. After that 2 of the plugs melted down. I switched back to Rapid fires, and changes my jets back. The motor ran fine.
Monster RS is right about autolite. I have never had any good experience with any autolite product. It's garbage.
You night feel a bit more power, but it's at the expence of your motor. BUYER BEWARE!
