what size injectos do i need?
before you guys tell me to do a search, i already looked but was looking for some "personalized" suggestions..
some of my combo is in my sig, but here are some specifics:
GMPP 350 HO crate engine
454 throttle body
edelbrock performer vortec intake
cam is around 212/222 w/.460 lift
vortec heads (duh)
1-3/4" slp headers
9.3 compression
the search came up with what looks like to be 68#. does this sound right?
right now i am running the 305 injector pod in my 454 base. all last year i had the holley 670, and the car ran really rich.
what injectors should i go with? what do the "350" injectors that everyone always talks about flow? where is the best place to get them? i called turbo city and they recomment the 68# ones as well, and they have them for 125 bucks a pop. isnt that a little expensive? what do you guys think?
to save money, can i just go to NAPA or someplace like that and ask for replacement injectors for, say a 350 chevy truck?
-brian
ps...should i just keep the 305 injectors (what are they rated at again? 55#??) and just pump up the fuel pressure? just trying to get the most out of this combo..and i want to get a custom chip burned adn i have to be able to tell them what i am using for injectors.

i just called fastchips (i dont know if i talked to ed wright or not..) and they said that i need at LEAST the 350 injectors, if not the 454 ones.
i told him that i thought that they were too big (the 454 ones) but he said that the chip can take care of that. it can be calibrated so that veen though they are big, they spray less fuel.
but do they know what tehy are talking about? i mean, yeah, they are going to know all kinds of crap about teh chips themselves, but about injector sizes, etc?
i am lost...i need help..PLEASEEEEEEEEE

I'm still trying to work some of this out too, but here is what I've figured out. The 305 is using 55# injectors. The injectors that you need can be found, if your lucky, in a junk yard (they have a yellow/brown color code on the top of the injector), but you can get a good set of injectors from GM if you order pn# 17112560 , 17112412, or 17084327. Look at snflupigus' post to answer more questions. https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/000255.html
apparently to get the 68# injectors you need to get them flow matched. Turbo city's price seems pretty good for the 68# IMO. A lot of people talk about just pumping up the FP but that seems like a good way to burn out your fuel pump to me...
Good luck,
Mike

Mike..
thanks for that link...it was pretty helpful.
what is up with the different part numbers for the injectors? there are like 4 different PNs for the 65(68)# injectors.
for 83 bucks a piece (i looked it up on gmpartsdirect.com) it looks like a deal to me. what do you guys think?

This has been covered here.
https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/007540.html
To choose an injector you need to know how much HP the engine will make. Then you can calculate the rough fuel requirements.
See http://www.rceng.com/technical.htm for a better explaination.
If you run smaller injectors at higher (non stock) fuel pressures you will have to buy another regulator or modify the stock one. Higher fuel pressure demands more of the fuel pump and it may not keep up.
My personal opinion is to get injectors that will fuel the engine using stock or near stk FP. In your case this means 330HP * .5 = 165lbs/hr or 2 82.5lbs/hr units.

Before Pablo jumps in on this let me just say that we both NEED a custom chip burned. I'm still running the holley 670 with the 65 injectors and my car is running rich right now. I'm going to play with the TPS sensor a little and maybe even swap out the CTS for the TPI IAT sensor, that might help me indirectly by fooling the computer to run a little less gas. I'll have to look at my plugs to be sure. Go over to the EPROM board and ask them and they'll all tell you we need a custom chip.

you can make the car run with whatever injector you want. As for power production, you wanna go on the large side so you dont run out of injector. Like Jprevost said, the chip takes care of it all when done right.

I've got a question that relates to this:
Let's say i have a bone stock 305 TBI car.
I put a 350 or 454 injectors on it.
I heard that the 350/454 injectors would spray at a higher rate in a 305 car than if it was it in an originally equipped 350/454 TBI vehicle. This would be because the 305 injector pulse is higher than the 350/454 injector. Then when you put the higher flow injector in it will flow the higher flow rate WITH the 305 (higher) pulse.
Is this the truth or a "Psychic Phenomenon"?

I wish the darn computer would tune itself with a really expensive o2 sensor.
