TBI fun time

Alrighty, so i bought my 92 RS with 305 TBI back in november since then i have done a few things to the engine. such as new plugs wires, distributer cap, rotor, oil change, water pump, s-belt, coolant flush, new coolant hoses, stat, fuel filter, and new edelbrock elite series 14 inch air cleaner. I was thinking about buying a throttle body spacer and TBI fuel injector spacer soon. So I guess my reason for posting this was to ask if you guys thought this was a good idea and if it will really do anything to the performance of the car. I am also doing a full exhaust system in a couple of months from the heads back, Im goin to run heddman shortie heads, offroad y-pipe, and flowmaster american thunder exhaust system. and i thought about putting bigger injectors on the engine also,a nd retarding the timing about 6*. Please do let me know what you think about this and let me know how well it will work or not work. thanks for your time everyone

yea stick to the bolts on, not sure if you wana keep the 305 or drop in somethin else but most of the stuff can then be transfered over later.. as far as the spacer you'll probably get a different story from everyone some say its like that tornado thing or fuel magnets. idea is to increase plenum volume, more area for the air and fuel to mix, they sell them for port injection cars too i've read they wont work for them because those systems use a dry manifold no fuel in the intake to mix but has some truth to our cars since our intake hold air and fuel. I had one it wasnt 10 or 20 hp but the throttle response was a little better and it pulled better in the mid rpms. they say it helps on gas mileage too not sure about that never really did the math. I noticed it says your from bayshore is that new york cause im in west islip, and I have some 305 parts I have a new injector spacer i didnt use if your interested.

i dont know why youd retard your timing as if i remember correctly everyone says it runs better advanced. the spacer isnt gonna do jack but throw off your tv cable and youll have to adjust it. i put one on my car which actually was the nitrous one which was like 1/2" thick and it did nothing that i could even notice. exhaust will get you the best gains. you wont need bigger injectors unless you plan on a lot of huge mods to your car. yea thats all

Crazymaro, keep me updated on your progress. I also own a 92 rs 305 and am planning some of the same modifications. I bought headers a while back and just ordered they y-pipe today. I'm also in the process of mating a stock injector pod to a holley throttle body base with 2" blades. I have a gtech, so I'm going to document all of the results. Did the edelbrock air cleaner help much? Good Luck with your project.

i added a a t b spacer and injector spacer acouple years back i also added it with an ultimate tb that was borred out to almost 2 inches, but with all this it made a huge difference just as much as my headers with full exhaust, which i installed a year later. response picked up and i gained alotta midrange torque id have to say is a good mod. the spacer i used was this one http://www.cfm-tech.com/Catalog/_pp-...ing_627147.htm

the tbi was http://www.cfm-tech.com/catalog/cfm-...ody_549456.htm u can find very similar tbi on ebay for much less, i didnt know at the time , but i'm still real happy with my tbi componets

you probably saw most if not all of your gains from the boring of the throttle body.

the air cleaner doesnt really help but sounds damn cool and was worth every penny id say.

Full 3" exhaust would be a good mod. Spacers may help, but the money is better spent elsewhere. Id also hold on the larger injectors for now until you see a need for them, such as a 350 or heads and cam.

As for larger TBIs and aftermarket manifolds, these are good mods when youve made some mods to the engine that raise its powerband and output. They will, however, need to be tuned via prom burning as the accel enrich and thresholds for PE will need to be changed due to the larger TBI and increased, non-heated intake plenum.

Start with a good 3" exhaust. Maybe play with the suspension a bit (sfc, lcr's and panhard rod). Then look at cam, heads, injectors.

I've done a cam and full exhaust but not before I got the suspension under control. Car can't do much if it can't stay on the pavement. Mods are in my signiture.
