Installed Open Element...One Question Though...

The Tech Article concerning installation of an OE says that you should disconnect your battery to reset the computer. Why do you need to do this?

****...I just installed mine. I ripped off the poopy stock set up and put mine on, without disconnecting anything. Maybe it could throw off your computer or something but mine is running fine. Same with my friends...he ripped his off too. (knock on wood)

I didn't disconnect anything either and it runs fine with me too. Just wondering...you know...in case you are really supposed to for some reason.

I think it's to let the computer adjust to the new air coming in (fuel/air mixture). I think it will adjust by itself in about a week though even if you don't disconnect it.

It's just a good rule of thumb to reset the ecm after you do something performance related. This way the ecm resets to it's stock variables and relearns what the new engine wants. You don't need to do it but it is just a good idea.

Is it possible to reset the ECM by pulling its fuse? I can't get the negative battery cable disconnected...the bolt is stripped.

it resets the integrator numbers in your ecu. they are what correct rich/lean conditions.

if you want to know more about that. go to the dyi chip board. or check out the best damn garage on the internet. sorry lost the addy for it, youll have to do a search in the boards for it.
