350 TBI upgrades, help needed within!!! LONG
I'm getting ready to do the swap. I have a 350 from 1972. It's a 2 pc.rear main seal. My questions are--
Won't the flywheel already on the 350 bolt to my 4L60????
What type of long tube headers should I use??
(Keeping the O2)
Would a tunnel ram improve my torque???
Does anyone have the TBI adapter plate #'s and cost??
Can I get and exhaust system for the longtubes???
Does anyone make headers that will bolt up to our stock y-pipe????

You must be new to thirdgens. If you hang out on this board for a week you would know all about Edelbrock TES and SLP headers. They aren't long tube but the SLPs are great. Both bolt up to the stock cat location. Long tube will be a custom job depending. I don't know of any long tube headers that have a y-pipe and stock intermediate pipe location. If there is, I would like to know!
As for the flywheel, yes, bolt right up and since you said 4L60 I'm thinking you have either a 91 or 92 RS. Don't forget about getting a new 350 knock sensor, the 305 isn't going to work right. A tunnel ram would be nice but it's not needed. Usually the tunnel ram setups are with large cfm carbs like 800+, the biggest TB so far is a 670cfm Holley and/or Turbocity. If you want the best torque then go with a dual plane, if you want more top end flow then go with a single plane. The Tunnel ram will probably hurt your torque off idle. It's only good if you have some crazy race motor setup. I don't have the TBI adaptor plate # but just call up Jegs (toll free number) and get the part number, just ask for the Holley square (or spread depending) to TBI adaptor plate. It will be under $50.
When you're done, you're going to have problems for sure with the fuel curve etc. If you can front ~$300 then GET A CUSTOM EPROM! Too many people complane about crappy gas milage, no power, and aweful throttle responce after an engine swap with speed density. It's because everything is preset and most engine swaps are far from stock. In closed loop the ecm doesn't know if you're running rich or lean so you can do some major damage. There are mechanical ways to get around a custom eprom but you will never have the throttle responce or idle quality so what's the point. You can mess with larger injectors and fuel pressure but that is like setting base timing. There is a LOT more to an engine than base timing etc. Either find somebody local or call up fastchip, they do eproms over the phone. You tell them what you got and they'll do a pretty good job making you chip that will work better than stock.
Good luck and I'm glad to hear you're staying with EFI. I think $300 for an eprom is nothing considering all the benifits. Good luck and if you have any more questions post post post. BTW: If you go to my website I have a run down on how to swap in a 350 and keep TBI. There are also a bunch of pictures for reference.

Actually Taz, the 91-92 camaro got the 4L60 trans. It was just a renamed Th700r4. You're thinking of the electronic trans, the 4L60e and 4L80e. Those were later.

4L60 is just another name for 700R4. Our car's have the 4L60/700R4 transmissions. There is no difference in basic operation in the 91-92 trannys as the earlier ones.
4L60 is just non-electronic. AKA 700R4.
4L60E is basically the electronic "700R4-type".
4L80E is basically a stronger electronic tranny.

Next, which is better Edelbroc TES or SLP. I'm not keeping the A.I.R. so will these work or would summits 1982-92 283-400 headers work better??? Thanks for the crank bolting thing, wasn't to sure how it worked. I do have a 4 inch goodmark industries cowl so a tunnel ram could fit, but I think a holley dual plane is more in my area. Next, what cam for this motor??? TBI cam??? Crane powermax cam??? Any and all help appreciated.
