Here I wanted a v8 badly ok i went and bought a Project 1988 305 TBI 5pd needs a little but my only concern is up and down idling and stalling I had the timing adjusted today was slightly off and I thought that was going to stop the problem (guess again) its still doing it what could be the problem .I really need some advice bad if anyone knows or could stop the problem please hit me up at redline_racing2007@yahoo.com Thanks Rob Or reply

Moving to TBI forum.

 

Any codes? full of coolant? Vacuum Leak? miss-firing? Iac valve stuck? What does the car do start and idle bad then when you put it in gear stalls... Check and make sure you have no codes, your coolant level is full and that you don't have any vacuum leaks.

 

see im new to this particular year and stick all fluid levels are on point just had the timing adjusted and that wasn't it could you descibed where would the vaccum lines would be ,the previous owner rebuild it and I just brought it I really need help I have big planns for it

also it starts up goes up and down for about 10mins and the it shuts off and then sometimes i turn it on it will run for a minute and it will shut off turns right back on and if i run it around she sometimes runs regular but I get a lot of hesitation off of first?please help

 

for the poor mans test you can go get some intake cleaner or carb cleaner and spray around the vacuum lines and throttle body and see if the idle changes. If it goes up then you found a vacuum leak. You could also use propane. Their is a vacuum diagram or should be on the hood. Just be very careful as i would hate to see a thirdgen burn to the ground due to it catching a spark etc. By the sounds of it you have a really big leak so check the tbi itself and look at the brake booster for starters.

 

thanks I tried it,it rain regular for a moment and then continued to idle up and down and it continues ???help I'm new to this tbi always had carb or tpi i dnt know where none of that stuff is im a fast learner but really need help anyone thats close to pa and willing to lend a hand please do so i really need help on this guys or play by play a,a description or something help i have really big plans for this car of making ot look like a formula and the only thing is that HELPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Their are not any codes aka check engine light on correct. Its hard to diagnose a problem from a computer without just replacing parts even if its not a parts problem. If their are no signs of a vacuum leak then it could be a iac valve. Seeing as thats a idle air control valve located on the throttle body itself you might want to try that and if it doesn't work return it. How close to va do you live......
