I'm sorry my fellow TBI brethren... I've gone to the dark side...

Just couldn't get the damn thing running with the TBI and I have to have it running by this weekend because I lose my daily driver. Yanked the computer controlled stuff (anyone want to buy a new MSD distributor) and threw a 750 Holley on there. When I get the cash to buy another car I'll give her to someone to put the TBI back on and hook up the Haltech and program her. Until then, I've got to have a daily drivable car.

I'm sorry. I have failed. <sob> Please be gentle.

Well I had the Haltech all set up to go - I just couldn't get it to run at all in order to start messing with it!! I'm totally bummin, but what're ya gonna do?! Got to have a car right?

I'll get some bills paid off, then buy a new car so's I can make this more than just another carb'd monster.

Well, I'm probably going to be running it in the rain, yeah. Why? Cause of the hood? No biggie, I'm making another ram air box to jam air in there through a Dodge Cummins Diesel K & N air filter. I'll post pix - just in case some of you guys want to do the same for the TBI, after all that's what it was going on originally...

Steve

EDIT: AND definitely keep me posted on your TBI - Hell if it's still in limbo after the first of the year give me a shout, I should have all of my bills paid off and can front some cash for it...

I'm not surprised. We're having a heck of a time getting a 383 happy with a ZZ4 cam and 454 TBI in a friend's 87 El Camino. But after burning quite a few chips, we've got it running and driveable. Let me just say the 8746 TBI computer sucks!

well, actually there is A way. less electronical maintnance. but, hey, if you cant use a computer yet, you're probably washing cars for a living.

o ya, and im almost positive i will have something by then. now that school is starting i have more $. living is subsidised durring the months im in school
so im saving 500 a month now, and that should cover finishing the body on my 69, and building a tbi.

i have a fully decked out 383 which i built, and pleased to say i learned to program, burn, and fully tune this puppy to run without a hitch in less than 6months. 6months ago i didn't know what an eprom was, i now program the thing for a truck with a laptop beside me.

look at the specs below for the engine, this engine is cabable of 400hp and i managed to pull a 26foot travel trailer fully loaded, 14ft boat and trailer two outboards and another 12ft boat ontop of the 14ft boat and got 14mpg with this engine in a 1ton crew cab 4x4 weighting in at 6000lbs and doing 55-60mph. not bad for a newbee and the help of thirdgen board.

there is now way in hell i would go back to a carb. running tbi and the scanner tells you exactly what your engine whats. the engine has a brain! carbs are stupid as a stump, what ever the carb feeds this is what the engine gets, no less no more!

all carbs imo can be tuned for wot properly but then love lots of fuel during normal driving conditions. tbi has this beat bigtime!! the numbers prove it, mpgallon!!!

i had the hot hp bbc and sbc carbed, none of them got this kind of operating flexability as fuel injection. starting a cold engine with a carb compared to tbi, well you all know the answer to this!

fuel injection is here to stay boys, learn how or be left behind, thats what you guys showed me.

show me a carb that can be tuned for all out go at the track, then run the vehicle as a daily driver and get good performance and mileage, NOT! it can be done but you better have an expensive carb and know what your doing. my 69gto ragtop has 400hp and does a high 12sec quarter, but gets 8-10mpg all the time!!!! with its stock 400ci ram air engine.

this is only mo, being a newbee to tbi or even tpi which ever is your fancy. all done in fun.

Oh, I have a ton of Computer smarts and can write programs and i know many different computer languages, but I also like the sounds that a Carb engine makes.

Well, PRSCARF, I'll certainly be picking your brain when I go to revist this issue. I didn't want to go carb, but I have to have a car to drive, else no job, no money, then before you know it no car... Of course, I still can't get the friggin carb to work right either...

I love it.
