Flat base 14x3 K&N, good choice? Help

I want to make sure that i get a good aircleaner for my car, and one that will fit,
i heard that a flat base is the best way to go, so what do you think, 14X3 K&N, or should i go with a drop-base, and if i go drop base do i get the one that drops 1.25 or 13/16 inches below the flange.
THANKS

Go flat base and remove the spacer ring.

yes the K&N is a great airfilter...I was told the open element is more effective with some type of after market hood. they said with the stock hood it sucks in hot air instead of sucking in cool air that the snorkel provided. Not sure what to believe.

What type did you use? Some guys in the gmperformance board told me to go for KNN-60-1430. But the k&N importer in Holland (europe) told me he couldn't deliver that type anymore.

I had a 3" SUMMIT flat bottom on at one time with the stock hood and no spacers under the stock tbi unit. Check at www.summitracing.com and look for the summit brand with replaceable filters. They have flat and drop bottom units with filters from 2" to 5". Mine was only $40. The drop bottom will give you more hood clearance without hurting flow.
