oil pressure....

okay i was wondering where most of your guys oil pressure sits at.. my oil pressure sits at 30.. should i get a new oil pump or what? how much do they cost and how hard are they to put in? i dont know if that is what caused my car to drop in oil pressure but the only thing i would think it would be is the oil pump going dead...

sits at 30psi at what rpm? if it stayts there all the time it is more likely that the gauge is actually dead, not the pump. if the pressure sending unit was bad it would be pinned past 60psi so we know that isn't the prob.

mines weird... sometimes it goes to 30, but i just changed my oil and for some reason it seems to be higher which is good... if i let it idle for a few minutes it still goes low... but it has never really scared me. i used to think it was the pump... but i just changed the oil and it has made it go up average of about 15 psi.. i dont know why it would.. but it seems like it did for me

Okay guys, think about it.. oil pressure will not be the same in all circumstances. When its cold, its going to be higher. Higher rpms=higher oil pressure. So when you start your car, the pressure will be high..as it warms up the pressure will drop, then when you drive around it will get higher as your engine moves faster.

just idlin its just below or right at 30 then cruising it goes 45 or so then when I really start rompin on it sometimes it goes all the way up to the line after 30 wich is prolly right around 47-49 , but usually stock guages are off. Thats where its on mine though

If the needle is dancing with the engine and isn't in either of the red zones you're A-okay. If you change your oil and the pressure goes up, then you know it was about time to change your oil .

At start-up, mine sits around 50 at idle, then drops and rises as I drive depending upon acceleration, etc. After it warms up it's about at 45.

okay it hangs out around 30 psi and after warm up it drops a lil below ... after all the post i think it might be a dead needle giving me an inacurate reading...

Hello
That bothered me for a while too.
I have a 91 5.7L Auto in a Truck
Mine sits at about 35 when cold.
27 when idleing warm, and 33 when driving warm.
My rpms don't really get over 3000 though.
Should a truck have more then a car?
