It would be "advisable" to say the least, to burn your own chip.

Any cam swap, no matter how mild it is, is beyond the abilities of the stock tune. An LT1 cam swap with a stock tune will make your car slower and eat more fuel. When I had a full exhaust, intake manifold, ultimate TBI mods I tried two differnet LT1 cams (one from a '96 F-body and one from a '94 B-Body) on the stock tune to see what would happen and my car would barely idle. Needless to say I didn't even back it out of the driveway it ran so poorly.
Before you do any cam swap, you must learn the basics of chip work. If you can use a computer, post on this site, and have a fundamental idea of how closed loop fuel injection works, you can burn your own chips. This site is an un-ended source for DIY prom burning so you only have to to look here for help.

out of the two cams which did you prefer? because im gonna need a little guidance as you already know. my old man is gonna help me and since we've been talking about this i have learned that he is VERY intelligent when it comes to cars so he will understand the closed loop system and i will learn. he said he knows how to burn chips but doesnt have the correct tools to do so.

I haven't looked at very many caprice bins but I am am pretty sure there was a different tune for each cam that they ran in that engine. Fast355 would know for sure.

The 9C1 model had a L98 camshaft, bigger exhaust, larger injectors, and was rated a 205 HP.
The proms were different between the two.
ANLU is the police package prom for a 8746 ECM.
The timing curve in the police package PROM is actually less aggressive than the civilian model.

Blemko, you really need to take the advice of the folks on this board and READ THE STICKIES. Folks have taken a lot of time and put together some very detailed posts that answer every one of your questions you have posted over the last few days.
You said you would rather post instead of taking the time to find the information for yourself, quite frankly if you're too lazy to spend 10 minutes searching you are never going to have the drive to learn how to burn your own chips.
A quick glance at the stickies right before you hit the post a new thread button would have showed you a thread entitled "come in for a free tune" this thread lays out word for word what equipment you need and the beginning steps to tuning. Read this thread 2 or 3 times, then read the LT1 cam sticky and find out the differences between the cams and then come back and ask some intelligent questions.

Re: chip decision..please help
BM, i have read most of the stickies and just have a hard time understanding them. thats what this forum is FOR is to teach right? its not that im too lazy its that im spending most of my time at work or in the garage trying to teach myself as well is the in and outs on the laptop to check back on posts, so when i get a post i am quite excited to see what someone is trying to inform me of and as like you, its usually the same old thing, use the search button bla bla bla. so next time you read one of my threads and and want to criticize me about decisions and have thoughts of slamming me down, let your thought go. thank you.

Yes, use the search gets old at times, I too have had a great deal of trouble understanding some of the things concerning TBI's....I have most of the stickies printed, and have read them numerous times, but I still come up short...Im sure it is just me, as alot of the guys on here really seem to know their stuff...Shifty, and 355 come to mind, there are many others tho...I have had a great deal of problem understanding the way a TBI worksl...It seems easy to some tho....Alot of times I ask a question that the search just does'nt answer for me, and want new up to the minute information....If ya just keep searching, no new threads will be created......Just my 2 cents...Tom

Re: chip decision..please help
I'm sorry if you are offended, but seriously the stickies really have everything that you ask of and explain them in very simple terms. They do more than give you a thumbs up or down to your "will an LT1 cam require a retune" question. The come in for a free tune thread shows how something as simple as a TB change will mess up your fuel tables by 10%.
So yes these boards are for learning, they are for explaining how and why not just provide a simple "yep it'll work" or "no it won't" type answer.
I'm not asking you to keep you mouth shut if you don't understand, I'm asking you to phrase your questions in a way that shows that you have done your homework and need additional help.
Here's an example,
I've read the free tune thread as well as the intro to tbi sticky and I don't quite understand how a cam will effect the way the ecm works. Can someone explain this better to me???
That type of question will get you some very good help quickly.

Read the stickies, there is litterally a ton of information about TBI systems, TBI engine modifications, and TBI PROM tuning.
Once you have specific questions, feel free to ask away.
