Removing smog stuff for hp gains...

I know there are several things to remove to free up horsepower. I have read The Ultimate, but don't see any mention of removing smog pump, gutting cat, etc. Could a knowleagable person brief me on this?? Also, I went open element some time back, but the 14x3 cut the coil wires so I put lil snorkie back on, should I cover the wires w/ something or get a smaller cleaner?

Umm My buddy took off his SMOG PUMP n stuff his TA, Did nothing for improvment in HP. Oh yeah sure he can see his valve cover and he thinks it is great....but.....4.5 hours of work..for that? EH your call. I say no. About the Open Air, I have one on my car didnt do a damn to the wires. I say you just move your wires alittle and tie them up some where.
