well the LT4 cams have a bigger lift profile, then LT1's so it basically depends on how radical you want your cam to be LT1 being Better and LT4 being the best

The LT4 got me a little over 300hp in my car. The lift however will cause you to get the valve guids ground to accept the lift. YOu can see my parts in my sig.....I may be selling my LT4 cam and roller lifters.

hmmm I was wondering if the lift would be a problem. I really want the LT4 I thought I could get away with just slapping it in there though. Why are you getting rid of yours if you dont mind me asking?

LT4 cam went in my LO3 with no problems.
Stock heads, springs, seals and valves.
Stock rocker arms.
Installed new timing chain set.

Run's good. I am replacing the heads and intake and rocker arms is the reason that I did not change the seals or springs. It will work but if you have alot of miles on the engine I would change them if you are not planning to change the heads.

Thats what I wanted to hear!! I was hoping that it would just go in with no problems. So you had to make no alterations to the heads at all right? Just making sure. I will however install the new timing chain set while I am in there. Thanks

You don't have to touch the heads unless you're going to 1.6 rockers in which case you will have to extend the pushrod holes towards the rocker stud for clearance.

Good luck.

since i'm not really deep into the chevy's yet (key word yet), what models had lt4's in them? or even lt1's for that matter? think it'd be safe to go to a recycler and get one out of the block or just get a new one? I'm working everything up on paper for my L03, gonna restore my RS fully and soup up the engine till i decide to swap in a 350 and just use the mods out of the 305

since they're roller cams then they should still be good in used engines right? hopefully i can find a junk yard around here that won't know the difference between any of em and get one cheap.

Yeah, I know, as soon I saw corvette, I knew I'd be better off just buying one, unless I got reeeeeally lucky, which I probably won't.

By the way, how much would a professional porting job for heads cost on average? If I was careful think I could do a good enough job myself? I am mechanically inclined, just want to know if it's best to leave that to pro's

You're better off getting new heads than trying to (or paying to) port the LO3 stockers. They're junk. For not a whole lot more money and no more effort you could get everything that you need to put a set of Vortec heads on your car and you would be at least 10,000 times happier. Just my opinion though...

Ditto on the LO3 heads. Just look down the intake port and you will see why and if you don't understand then find a set of heads that are not swirlport and check them out. Half the port is blocked on the LO3's.

You should be able to find a set of casting number 081's cheap and then do a mild porting job on them for cheap or do the above for new heads and add Vortec's or World 305's.

No, I know that, I'm planning on getting new heads, probably the world torquers, but I was wondering about porting them. or would they not need it?
