Re: cam question
Depending on the cam, you could end up with too little vacuum for the computer to be happy.

Re: cam question
There are a lot of cams in the Xtreme Energy line, you need to know which one.

Re: cam question
Overlap is a big factor when determining cam shaft compatibility. For example if a stock cam in a stock application idled at 30 map and you replaced it with a camshaft that idled at say 60 map it most likely wouldnt even idle because it would be rich. At open throttle it most likely would become extremely lean. Have you considered burning your own chips?

Re: cam question
Its easy, Check out the stickies at the top of the message boards. There are a bunch of editors out there that make it very user friendly and its its fairly inexpensive. I was reluctant at first, but with my engine combination I was forced to learn. Now its just a fun hobly for me. My motor wouldn't even run on the stock programming. I'm so glad I took the time. This site is the most helpful I have found and there are some really brilliant members here who are more than willing to help whenever you ask...as long as you research first, questions here are never a problem.

Re: cam question
Simply put.....NO.....not a fat chance. Guys have stalling and drivability problems with the LT1 cam which is only marginally bigger than stock. Even if it did run, you won't gain any power because of the type of FI that TBI is. Tuning is a necesary evil with these cars. Once you get the hang of it, it's a blessing.

Re: cam question
Just so it's perfectly clear, TBI is perfectly capable of supporting a big cam. It'll actualy run better than a carb would.....but it requires chip tuning.
Re: cam question
isn't stuff for emission controlled cars more expensive?where i live we dont have emissions testing but, they do a visuial. so i can't even but headers on my car without failing that. isn't there a street rod plate or something i could get to by pass all of that

Re: cam question
maybe you should tell us where you live first to determine that
as what for the carb/tbi thing goes, it's always easy to slap on a carb, but i would go the other way and learn some custom chiptuning. you can probably achieve better performance than a carb with a properly set up tbi, plus better milage if you care.

Re: cam question
PA has some screwly smog laws, and they vary so wildly between counties that if you ever move you could have to change everything. If you don't have an inspection station that will overlook things like headers then you really need to consider sticking with TBI.
You can still modifiy your car in a smog **** county, you just have to use parts that have a C.A.R.B. number. Eldelbrock makes some headers that has this number, all you have to do is supply this number at your inspection. Unfortunately there is no CARB number for swaping to a carb.
