T.B.I Problem PLEASE HELP!!!
Hey guy/Girls, I have a problem with my 84' Camaro. It is the iron duke. What happens is i start it up and after a given amount of time(varies) it will just die(genneraly after about 5 min). Me and my dad bought new relays not the problem, a new injector..not the problem. SO we thought mabey the fuel pump..so we wennt to the local speed shop(aai) and bought an in-line fuel pressure gauge. When the car was running it was doing about 11-12 P.S.I (normal for my car)..Then when it died i was tring to start it and it was doing about 5-6 P.S.I (it that nomal?) And it take about 3-4 time for about 6-7 secionds, cranking times for it to start and it gets spark when it is not starting and the injector is not sparing?..Any hel i need to get it fixed my march..Thhats when i get my licence?...Please help?

Is this just while its idling? Can you drive it before it dies? will it start back up? Is the Engine light on?

Sorry to hear about your old man passing away.
About your Iron duke - I do not know what GM was thinking when they put that engine into Camaro back in the early eighties. Back in those early days Chevy dealers could not get them of the lot. I think you know why.
Getting back to your dilemma. When you get no spark, no injector firing condition plus FP is low (6PSI during cranking) I would perform couple voltage checks. - Get DVM a measure voltage supplied to dizzy during cranking. Depending how good is your battery is you should see 10 to 11 Vdc. If it is much lower (say about 7 to 10 volts) you need to:
1) Make sure battery is good, fully charged
2) Clean battery cables connections at both ends. Use battery terminal cleaner, get rid of crud and dirt, make sure that lugs are oxidation free, coat with vaseline to keep moisture from getting into terminal.
3) Verify that battery cables are in good shape (not crispy fried)
4) Starter is turning at good pace.
I think you get the picture

Nope happens even if you are reving/driving it. It does start back up but i have to crank it for about 20-30 seconds(lol..noo i dont crank the starter for the full thety secnds i crank it for about 5-6 each try! and when it is running nope the check engine light is not on!

But i get spark! and we just went thru and did all that stuff to the batt.

Re: T.B.I Problem PLEASE HELP!!!
To make it perfectly clear - you no longer see 12 PSI of fuel pressure, just 6 PSI during cranking and engine running (Yes/No)??

Looks like you have FP voltage drop during cranking - fuel pump tired (probably original)

Re: T.B.I Problem PLEASE HELP!!!
ya, but the thing we are comfused by is woldent the injector at least be spraying somthing in to the engine? Or does it need 10-11 psi to inject?
And today when we worked on it it was doing 8 psi during cranking.

Re: T.B.I Problem PLEASE HELP!!!
I am having a very similar problem
Just pulled my 03 - Iron Duke with an automatic out of storage.
Last time it was out I had a poor idle and an off idle stumble. It would die at stop signs if I didn't shift into neutral.
Fuel pump was bad - so I changed it and replaced the rotten gas tank.
Now only 5psi at the fuel filter inlet
Thinking Ill put an inline booster pump in before the fuel filter to get back to 12 - 15 psi.
I read a remapped chip might help too! Any sources for a plug and play ECM with the correct upgrades?
