Cold air induction

Hows it look? This my TBI Cold air induction. I did it with things I had around the garage. I had to buy a second snorkel though. The tubes are extra sewer hoses from my camper (not used) I turned the stock air cleaner into an open element and used a taller air cleaner. Its not done yet, I want to find some black hose.

Re: Cold air induction

Do you have two intake hoses running off of that. Can I use my stock cleaner, which I have with a flipped air cleaner lid and taller filter(basic like an open cleaner), and take off the plastic snorkel and put some tubing on to face out under the quarter panel.

Also, did you run your tube on under the quarter panel? And, is there a filter or screen on the end of the tubing to prevent anything getting sucked up?

Re: Cold air induction

What did you use to hold the tubing pieces together? Electrical tape? did you see the scoop set up by thomas1976? :https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tbi/...ir-intake.html

Do you think it works?

Re: Cold air induction

Yep Two Hoses running into both quarter panels and ran under the bumper. I strapped the ends so they faced forwards instead of hanging. It may help a little with your setup, but it Would work a lot better with an open element. No I didn't put a screen on the ends, but I probably should.

I used ZIP ties to hold them in place, the ends fit snuggly inside the snorkel. I also made it so there is a slight edge on the base of the aircleaner, and the end of the snorkel rests on it. The way I have it set up, it doesnt require much to mount and keep it place

Re: Cold air induction

Thomas1976 post is only a few down from the top. He's making and selling his setups, but I'm not sure if it works, because the intake wouldn't be getting much cold air under the hood like that, unless you had scoops or holes in the hood right above it

Re: Cold air induction

Im not sure either. I thought most your air comes from the bottom. Its a nice setup though.
My setup would cost 15 bucks at the most. I only spent 5 thought because I already had the tubing

Re: Cold air induction

Your setup is nice and simple though, and it probably cost you next to nothing. I think a filter or screen would be good, but I would ask around. Most of the aftermarket intakes I see have some type of cone filter on the end, but I know some people have setups like yours but don't have a filter. I would just be concerned about rocks and stuff.

It looks like he has the vented hood. If you had that then ya that wood work well.

Re: Cold air induction

That is sewer hose, used in motor homes and campers. Go to walmart or camping world. Get 10foot section if your doing both sides. . Should be about 5 or 10 bucks.

Re: Cold air induction

Bigj350

I am confused here or maybe I missed something. But to me it looks like a open air filter element and you simply have fresh air ducts placed by it ..... My question is this howwwww is it cold air induction???? I just don't see how that could do anything useful ..... Or have you made a base to connect the ducting to????

This is how I did my TBI engine granted I know it can't be fabbed to your car since this has a functional hood blister. I have a dual snorkel air cleaner I am working on for the car and I figure with that and cowl induction the motor should have all the cool air it could ever need.

Re: Cold air induction

I quess technically its not cold air induction. Sorry for not using the correct terminology. Its just something I was messing around with. What would the proper term be? whether its useful or not I don't know I dont care. It seems to make a little difference and it cost 5 bucks. But its not done yet, I am sure I'll change it around a few more times and get a different air cleaner housing.
