350tbi ecu?
350tbi ecu?
Instead of scouring unkyards for a 350 tbi ecu, I have found I can get a reman ECU through my work for like $65. Would this be an easier route to go? I have an 88 formula that I will be puting a mild 350 in keeping the stock tbi. I know I will need the 350 inectors, knock sensor and a few other things. I will later be doing some other mods and will have to get nto the chip burning, or find someone that can burn chips for me, as I have no way to burn my own stuff (yeah I've looked at the stickies and what not, But computer stuff is not one of the things I am good at. Also this is my first delve into fuel inection of any kind.

Ah, interesting dilemma. I don't believe you will find a stock '88 TBI ECM for your car with a 5.7l engine calibration . In the f-body it is a one year only 1228063 ECM. The '89 - '92 MY fbody's used the 1228746 ECM. Along with Caprices of about that vintage.
Also, purchasing an ECM from an auto supply house usually doesn't include the PROM. Which is the calibration.
Can keep your stock 1228063 ECM and get into chip burning. Or, move to a '8746 ECM from a junkyard Caprice with a 5.7L engine. The JY ECM should include the PROM.
RBob.

Additionally, you could re-pin your ECM connectors to use the 1993-1995 TBI Truck PCM.

As per Rbob and along the same lines 90-93 Caprice and Buick Roadmasters used 16136965 ECM. Buick Roadmasters ECM are more desirable since all Buick's that I have seen at JY were equipped with 350 TBI and 700R4 trannys. Just check to be sure. B-Bodies are very heavy cars - around 5000 lbs according to certifications tags. TP has XDF file for $62 mask which allows for basic tuning.

Re: 350tbi ecu?
Thanks for all the info guys, But I think I am going to go with an aftermarket stand alone system like the holley 950 4bbl tbi unit to support 380-500hp I got a deal on a Vortec motor and I think I'll use it and do some head work to it to use an lt4 hotcam kit.

You can go further with the GM ECM than you can the Holley system.

I've also completed a TunerPro .ads file for this 91-93 Caprice mask and 16136965 ECM (this allows data logging). There was one up on the moates.net site but it turned out it wasn't really completed and it had a lot of bugs. Mark Mangus found the main problem that was causing it to generate errors and then I went thru it and completed it and fixed the little errors. Its working real well now. Its not on the Moates site yet as I want to test it a little more but I'll be sending it to him shortly.

I have '6965 ECM from 350 TBI Buick which I can quick test with. I can drop it in and see how it plays. I tried earlier version of ads file, but got nothing but grief - set it aside.

RF-
Mark Mangus found the main problem which was also probably causing you problems, the number of bytes in the datastream was set wrong so sometimes you get good data, sometimes lots of errors.
A lot of other stuff was not completed or not done right so I fixed all that.
Its attached, just change .txt to .ads, it would be great if you could try it out and let me know if you see any problems.
Thanks,
Paul T.
