OK This might be long but hope someone can help !

I just bought a 92 camaro 305 TBI And cant get it to run ... Wierd this is sometimes it will and sometimes it wont . Seems to lack power but engine runs smooth . Problem is when i start it sometimes it will adle good for about 3 seconds then drops almost to stalling speed and then way up to 2500 then back down and back up . and sometimes its steady around 1000 but hten everytime i put it in reverse or drive it stalls unless i keep giving it some gas . But then i take off and it starts bucking it will go until it hits 2500 rpm and then bogg to about 1000 and continue to do this until it hits about 20 mph sometimes it will start doing it at 55 and stall out no matter what i do . Ive replaced knock sensor, fuel injectors , regulater and filter , map sensor , TPS , IAC , ECM , Coolent Sensor , EGR , O2 Sensor , Distributor Cap , Rotory Button , Ingnition module , PCV valve , I think thats all It just seems like its starving for fuel . Have not tested fuel pressure yet (forgive me ) Im leaning towards fuel pump but not wanting to pull tank anything else it could be ???

Welcome to TGO. What you have described in your post can be considered classic symptoms of fuel starvation. You can rent fuel pressure tester from most auto parts stores. TBI does not have a test valve - you can test FP by inserting a T at fuel filter connection or by inserting an adaptor at the inlet port in the back of the TBI (the driver side ). Be very careful when working with fuel lines.
Stock TBI system requirs 11 to 14 PSI. Anything less than that would cause symptoms you are describing.

thanks for your fast feedback ... i will test fuel pressure tommorrow and see what it says and if its bad i guess its time to drain a full tank lol ... let you know something when i do .... Thanks agian !

Ive had problesm almost as you described and it is for sure a fuel starvation and is a sign your fuel pump is going south!

thanks jj BTW if you dont mind me askin how much was that headlight conversion kit total , was going to get one for my 91 but never did ... advance did sell them not sure if they still do or not JW ... Mark

if i remember. i paid about $40. Im not to sure though.. i seen some on ebay for about $30. might want to check ebay.

Ok guys spent all day changing out fuel pump and so far starts at about a half rotation which is 10 times better than before also has no hesatation from dead stop to full trottle ... still having a stall issue when idling for more than a min though ... and am showing faulty map sensor code ... map sensor should be good but ima buy another and try that and check for leaks ... but fuel pump made it run like a pro .. thanks guys ! updates comin later on !

Before you spend money on the MAP sensor you can check it with DVM (VOM). If you have a stock engine that idles at about 600 RPM and 16-18 in-Hg MAP sensor output should be about 1.0 to 1.5 Vdc (pin B - Light Green). Just make sure that vacuum lines going to MAP sensor are in good shape.

Which code do you get - 33 or 34??

if this is a fuel injected car, please check the cooling sensor. I had similar symptoms, turns out the wires were only half connected on the cooling sensor.

showing a code 34 . I dont have a voltage tester but im sure i can get one . also will check that coolent sensor already replaced but maybe loose wiring ... thanks guys !

Hi I just bought a 92 camaro with a 305 it will start and idle for about 5 min then stall it will start fine.and ill take off then when coming to stop or turn or just let off the gas it will start missing or bucking then stall if I don't give it gas and when I do give is gas when its doing that It will miss or just die out I would appreciate the help I'm a high school student and this my first camaro don't know much about it please help out if yall don't mind(it started doin this ofter I burnt out the tires started skipping AMD caused a lot of vibration so Idk if a hose came loose or something please help
