Fastest Bone Stock LG4 or L03 F Body
Fastest Bone Stock LG4 or L03 F Body
I was wondering what the fastest time anyone ever got out of a Bone Stock LG4 Carburated 82-87 or a L03 TBI 88-92 Camaro or Firebird.
I'm interested in getting one as a project.
I have a modified 94 Z28 currently.
Thanks,
Dan

Re: Fastest Bone Stock LG4 or L03 F Body
With no air cleaner I ran around 10.50 in the 1/8 mile. 91 RS 305TBI, T5 trans.
Pretty slow considering my buddy ran a 10.30 in his 2002 F250 Powerstroke with exhaust and a tuner.

The fastest bone stock (except for an open element and a flowmaster 80) is 90RS305 (Bruce) He ran a 15.3 in the quarter. But I don't think he frequents the boards much anymore.

I think I went 16.4 with auto, then 16.6 when I went to t56 since I lost a ton of first gear.
Re: Fastest Bone Stock LG4 or L03 F Body
I'm amazed with some of these times, especially the 15.2.
Chevyhiperformance.com has a project 87 Camaro on their site and with tons of mods including heads and cam they couldn't get better than a mid 15.
They baselined it at a mid to high 17 trapping at about 77.
They have an awesome 7 part projet about it on their site.
The 15.2 is amazing for just about stock and I am even impressed with the low 16's.
Love to hear more.

Re: Fastest Bone Stock LG4 or L03 F Body
when my car was bone stock even down to the factory muffler
it ran a 17.2
after a tuneup" it still had the factory plugs/wires cap and rotor @ 83k"
it then ran a 16.6 with a few 16.4 runs "real cold" but pretty consistant 16.6s
timing @ 0
after adding 3.23 gears open element and a few other minor mods
it was running 16.4 consistantly with a few 16.1 bursts just couldnt get it any lower with that combo timing @ 4
all still with factory muffler
then i yanked the muffler in favor of a flowmaster force 2 muffler still useing the factory 2 1/4 i pipe and ran a 16.3 2.0 60 ft "guy next to me wrecked so i left after only 1 run" timing @6
i then did a speed density tpi swap with timing @6 nothing changed other then swapping to tpi
ran a 15.6 first run with lots of wheel spin 2.8 60 ft
2nd run was 15.4 still with 2.6 60 ft
now after edelbrock tes tbi headers "paid 75 used" im running 15.4 consistantly with 1 15.1 run but had a 2.19 60 foot also a much hotter day 80s where as all my other runs where night runs 60s temps
i do know my car seems to beat many tbi 350 conversions around here
and i crush my freinds modded lg4 by 3-4 cars in a race to 80
alot of people seem to get there tbis faster but i couldnt
i wish i would have been able to run the tbi with headers as they really opened the car up
i can tell you stock lg4 cars are even more dogs then then tbis but its alot easier to make them faster

Re: Fastest Bone Stock LG4 or L03 F Body
well this is off the subject just a tad. but im a chevy guy all the way. but there was a point in my young life that mustangs caused a chubby.lol. i had a 2003 mustang gt. sonic blue metallic. k&n fipk cold air. diablo tuner. mgw short shifter. sumitomo htrz 2. 2001 cobra rims. upr x pipe. slp loudmouth exhaust. and stock 3.27 gears. the first time i ever drag raced at a track. i got a 14.3 and beat a 99' vette. i had a .02 reaction to his .55555. he was runnin me down, just not fast enough. but this is the kinda performance i hope to get out of my L03. it'll take some work. but this is what im sure we are all shooting for. pony killer power. in all honesty i miss my gt. but gas prices and finances sent that car to new owners. i bought my camaro from a good friend. and its hear to stay. when gas prices plummit and i form a get rich quick scheme im thinkin LS7 swap. lol. that'll get my mind right. what do u all think. lol. every body take care and be safe. Re: Fastest Bone Stock LG4 or L03 F Body
To the OP and some others interested in opening up the TBI...
you should really read about the EBL flash. Its made board member RBob, and basically lets you tune a TBI car almost as easy as a newer OBDII car. He also "fixed" alot of GM's shortcomings in the factory ECM supposedly, to make the car run better and more drivable on any tune.
Also, you should look at the LT1 cam swap thread. I plan on doing both of these together, after I get the car driving solid how I want it.
IMHO, besides the dinky exhaust, the biggest reason these cars are so gutless from the factory, is the tiny .3xx camshaft, and the sucky factory tune. If GM had wanted to, they could have easily made the LO3 a motor that could compete with the TPI cars, and still get better gas milage too!

The engine is stock, but this one has an exhaust system from a TPI car and has 3.73 gears: 15.70 @ 87 mph in 94 degree heat.

Re: Fastest Bone Stock LG4 or L03 F Body
I went 15.3 with a cat-back, and 3.42 rear gears. When I added the headers, I went 15.1. And went faster from there with engine mods.
So I dunno if that counts, but I did go 15.1 without touching the engine, just exaust/headers and rear-gears/posi, and a couple other things, like alum. driveshaft, lightweight flywheel, centerforce clutch, etc.

Re: Fastest Bone Stock LG4 or L03 F Body
Back when I had my 90 RS w/ 175k miles I ran a 14.791 with stock heads, camshaft, tbi, and intake manifold
performance mods: open element, edelbrock headers, high flow cat, hooker catback, asp pulley, 1.6 stamped rocker arms, 3.73 gears.
other mods: aluminum driveshaft, AC delete.
added an edelbrock intake manifold, 2400 stall ACT converter and ProBuilt tranny but never got any good times with those mods due to extreme traction problems, then I got my 02 Z28, gave the 90 RS to my very irresponsible little brother and he got the car impounded. So if anyone is in the bay area and finds a blue 90RS with a red iroc hood at an auction or something there are some nice parts on there.

Re: Fastest Bone Stock LG4 or L03 F Body
Thirdgen was starting to fall apart even though I was good about keeping it well maintained (very bad paint, high mileage engine, bad door hinges, bad hatch motor, car would not start when hot even with new starter, etc.). Things I could have fixed but after I graduated college and got my career started I said "now I can by my 4th gen" and I LOVE IT. I sold the RS to my brother for pennies, he ran it into the ground, sold it for $300 behind my back even though I told him we could part it out and make more money than that. Then he never took it out of his name with DMV, the guy that bought it ran it deeper into the ground, broke something, left it on the street and it was impounded. SUCKS!!! Now it would cost more than the car is worth to get it out. At least I was able to pull out the Spohn LCAs, panhard bar, BMR adjustable torque arm, Aluminum DS, and 24mm rear sway bar before he lost it.
