AFPR on a TBI
This weekend i will be installing a walbro 190 pump in my tank as my old one is on its way out, and since i have upgraded to a 350 from the old 305 i figure now is better than ever. Im also going to install an AFPR when i do the pump, and i might be replacing a few of the fuel lines also, now my question is, Is it okay to put an AFPR in the rubber line that is on the Drivers side, right before your lines go up to the TBI unit? i figure by putting it in the rubber line this would make it easier on the install than putting it in the metal lines and will give me easy acces to it. And would i need to do anything to the stock regulator? The way i see it ill have the adjustable, than the stock one, wouldnt that just regulate the pressure down right before the fuel gets sprayed out the injectors? IM pretty new at this stuff so any help is appreciated.
Re: AFPR on a TBI
I removed my stock regulator used it as a template and scribed some .125 inch alum plate. cut and dremeled the plate. went to auto parts store for bulk gasket and cut it with exacto knife. used bolts from stock reg and bolted in place the cover plate and gasket. Many of us use Aeromotive VAFPR unit with the optional two springs 10-20 and 20-60 lbs.

Re: AFPR on a TBI
Well, after some research i think i have actually decided to go with the VAFPR, i was reading a thread from like 2001 about the GM p/n 17113186 regulator. I looked on Gm parts direct and they say they dont have any part matching that number. You wouldnt happen to have a link for the Aeromotive unit would you? or the GM unit? TDS used to carry it, from what i gather, but now they only carry the spring and the vaccum delay, im looking for something fairly straight foreward to install and it sounds like the GM unit is pretty easy.

Universal Bypass Regulator, P/N 13301
A dual purpose, universal regulator for EFI or Carbureted and street or strip applications. Base pressure adjustable from 3 to 20 PSI with standard spring (installed) or from 20 to 60 PSI with high pressure spring (included). Offers the full flow and rock steady fuel pressure that only a dynamic, Aeromotive bypass regulator provides.
Universal Bypass Regulator, P/N 13301
• Capable of regulating any fuel pump between 100 and 250 GPH.
• Fuel pressure rises on a 1:1 ratio when referencing boost.
• All ports are 3/8” NPT, with one inlet and three outlets on the main body and one return port on the bottom.
• Bypass design provides the ultimate, dynamic fuel pressure control.
Note: (Requires a return line to be installed from the bottom of the regulator to the top of the tank.)
try gmpartsdirect.com for the VAFPR GM item? rumor is discontinued. I would check ebay too.

Re: AFPR on a TBI
Thanks, ill look into it. WOuld using a VAFPR on a TBI be better than using just a normal AFPR? the article is alot to take in all at once.
Re: AFPR on a TBI
The advantage to using a VAFPR is to reduce the pulse width at idle when using higher fuel pressure/large injectors. Helps provide a cleaner idle. With 80 lbs injs at 19 lbs FP the VAFPR reduces FP at idle to 14 lbs for me. W/O it attached I was idling at 2.6 msec or so and now it is more like 1.8 msec(synch idle mode). Idle quality improved(more steady less surge).
