Dead spot?

I have a 1988 305 tbi and have a dead spot in my gas pedal when I leave from a stop. At light throttle it dont want to move and almost acts like it is going to die and then it will catch and take off. Any ideas what could be the problem? Thing I have already dont are new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. New fuel filter. Timming is set. Ran fuel injector cleaner twice through it. Checked fuel pressure and it is 12psi. Once I am moving I dont have any issues this just happens at light throttle from a dead stop. If I press the gas half way or more from a dead stop the car will take right off. Could is be something like a throttle position sensor going bad?

Re: Dead spot?

It does it when it's cold or warmed up and humidity does not matter. Funny thing though it does not do it all the time...it will stop sometimes and then start again thats why I was thinking a sensor.

Re: Dead spot?

sounds like the tps is a possible issue. connect a voltmeter and see if the sensor reads reasonable voltage throughout the whole sweep. i think there is an article in the FAQ/Tech section on this site... ah well, here you go:

Re: Dead spot?

if its an automatic it could be the torq converter not engaging. how long has it been that you checked your trans, fluid, filter, and the rest.
you did not say that your engine was stalling so i am proceeding on the basis that the engine responds fine but the car does not move.

It is not the tranny...the motor almost stalls and then it will take off. It feels like a carburetor powered car with a bad/incorrect accelerator pump...when I step on the gas partway from a stop it will hesitate real bad (Almost die) and then go. This is only part throttle though, if I floor it from a stop it will take right off.

Re: Dead spot?

Wondering if you have figured this out. I have the exact same symptoms right now, recently had a major tune up, was running great for a bit. 88 305 GTA
