FI TO TBI

Ok ive done a search and came up with a few different numbers out there. Im not quite sure which would suite me for my application so heres my question. Ive got a bird which was previously a V6. Brand new fuel pump so i don't want to bother replacing it if i don't need to. What fuel regulator would i need and what would the proper pressure be for the swap to a 350 TBI from a 89 Blazer be? The previous engine was a 3.1L V6 and i don't want to mess up the 350 by putting to much fuel pressure into the TBI. Also should i use the Charcoal canister from the Blazer or keep the one from the bird?

Re: FI TO TBI

Early TBI systems run 11-13 lbs. But can run much higher FP. My TBI runs at at 20 lbs with TPI pump. Later (1995-1996)TBI ran as high as 36 lbs.

Re: FI TO TBI

The tbi unit has a regulator built right in. It will set the system pressure to about 13 psi. Should be fine with your existing pump.

Remember that it is the regulator, not the pump that determines system pressure.

Re: FI TO TBI

Alright thanks. Just was alittle worried because i haven't done anything this big. First swap. Trying to get it running and driving by this summer. Also, would there be any hiccups i should pay attention to with this swap from the truck to the car?

Re: FI TO TBI

Tuning, tuning and more tuning.

Vehicle weight and gearing make a really big difference in the AE and PE requirements. So far as I know the VE tables should remain the same though.

Ok what do you mean by the tuning? I mean Im not very familiar with the computer tuning. Im using everything from the blazer that deals with the engine. Everything else im not sure. I appreciate the info.

Re: FI TO TBI

If you just use the truck ecm and chip, the engine will not perform as well as it could. The reason is that the weight and gearing of your car is different than those of the truck the engine was installed in originally.

If you leave it the way it is it will run, but it won't run as well it could.

To get an idea about chip tuning, read the stickies on the TBI board. All the info you need is right there.
