Good alternative to headers

Hi!

I'm searching for a good alternative to headers. I want to upgrade the exhaust system of a '88 Firebird Trans Am, but I have to use stock looking manifolds because here in Switzerland, headers arn't allowed. And I don't want to swap them every two years I have to go to the "road traffic licensing department" (or how it's called in english).
Is it possible to use LT1 manifolds or something? And would it be worth the work?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Good alternative to headers

Cadillac STS, Jeep cherokee, corvette and some other cars have tubular exhaust collectors (headers) from the fabric.

Difference between stock exhast manifolsd is in my opinion to small to make it worth the swap. Go with headers and if you really have problems at ispection you can alway swap the stock exhaust back for 1 day.

Other possebility is 91-92 GTA exhaust manifolds with macperformance Y pipe. http://www.macperformance.com/store/...Product_ID=450
But it will end up costing as much as headers and still be less effective then headers.

Or find a privat import bird # X, they will not have axcess to any information regarding stock specs except whats written in the car licens.

Anyway swiss car inspection specially for these cars is totally retardet and stupid. Whit aftermarket full 3" exhaust, mild cam and proper tune you drop fuel consumption to 7.5-8L/100km on motorway, pass emission tests perfectly but still be street illegal.

Yes, but how dificult is the swap? I want to avoid to spend days, only to swap the exhaust manifold. I've heard a lot of "horror stories" from other guys (different cars). They told me that they had to unbolt the engine to get enought space for the swap. If this is also true for the Firebird, I don't want to do that every time for the inspection.
