Car floods itself out.

I've got a '91 camaro RS w/305 TBI with about 230k miles. It is all stock right now and left me stranded a while back. It started running really rough and really rich until it just quit. The car will only run for a few minutes at a time before it floods itself out again.I changed the plugs which were BLACK and started to change the tps sensor but the auto parts store has given me the wrong part twice. After thinking about it, I'm not sure that's the problem. It could be the iac or O2 also I guess. I dont want to sink alot of money into it because the motor is coming out shortly to be replaced with an LS1. I do d to get it running so that it can be moved around. Any ideas which is more likely???

Re: Car floods itself out.

from most cheapest to most expensive
IAC . $20 to $30 @ autozone
TPS . $50 from Rock Auto " dont forget to use the 5% discount code"
Oxygen sensor . $20 most auto parts stores .
my bet is on the TPS and Oxygen sensor ,IAC would give you idle Problems.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I'm going back to return the wrong part in the morning. I think they gave me one for a TPI. I'm hoping this will fix the problem.

Make sure to tell them that ur car is a 5.0 L vin E wich is for tbi, they did the same to me when i needed an egr valve, i just told them it was the 5.0l and they gave me an egr for tpi. Good thing tho cuz it was 80 bucks after that i just went to autozone and got a Duralast one for 30 bucks and its still working like new after 5 months.

Re: Car floods itself out.

to my knowledge only things that could possibly make it run that rich are coolant temp sensor or map sensor.try un plugging each and see if condition improves.02 and tps simply dont have the influence to flood engine out like that.also check fuel press and make sure inj. not stuck open.

Re: Car floods itself out.

After finally getting the right part the car seemed to run ok. I let it idle for about 15 min. and it flooded itself out again. I tried it again today and it started and ran fine. I drove it around the block which is about 2.5 miles and it ran good. The check engine light is still on though. I will unhook the battery and try to clear it again tomorrow. I will also try unhooking the iat and map sensor if the problem is not fixed.

Consider having codes read. I believe the auto parts store can do for you free of charge.

Re: Car floods itself out.

I just figured mine out. It seems i had a combo problem going on, i changed 02 sensor on mine and it would run a lil better but still tried to stall. But then while the car was running i accidentaly bumped my coil wire and it zapped me so i changed it and it runs better then ever.
