New to TBI help please..

Im new to this stuff and this is my first 3rd gen camaro. Its a 91 rs. My pedal is really hard to push down and i can tell the the blades in the tbi are stickin a little when they are fully down. Ive read that you have to adjust the IAC to not let the blades go completely down. The thing is is that i have no idea on how to adjust it. Anyone have a tutorial on adjusting it? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: New to TBI help please..

There is a adjusting screw on the TB to adjust the blades, IAC does not control the blades, only the trottle cable does.

You cannot miss it if you look at the TB, front driverside. The screw its the trottle linkage stop.
A repair manual is cheap and a good investment

Re: New to TBI help please..

If you look at a TBI or TPI TB you will notice the blades work only machanically.
The TPS just informes the ECM were the blades are.
The IAC controls the quantity of air entering the TB wen the blades are closed. Look at the IAC valve at idle, you will figure out quickly how it works.

If your blades are sticking, IAC sensor is not involved, thoug a really bad TPS could cause similar simptom.

Re: New to TBI help please..

could be dangerous if it sticks wide open. Like a Toyota. Take off cables and run TBI blades with hand and see if it sticks. Maybe cable sheathing liner is well worn?

Re: New to TBI help please..

Oh no its not sticking wide open lol.. Its just when i stop completely its a bit harder to push the gas and i noticed the blades stick a bit when i let the blades close completly. When the pedal is past the stick it just fine.

If you chose to open the blades at idle then you will need to reduce the IAC steps accordingly. I recall I see 5 steps at idle for IAC. stock.bin may show more.

THROTTLE BODY CLEANER

Buy a can of throttle body cleaner and generously spray the blades, with engine off, at all positions, blast out the vacuum ports at base of TBI. also spray the external (directly outside of TBI) linkages and springs (IAC, throttle cable, all of that stuff) to free up gunk dirt grease or residue

Re: New to TBI help please..

could be that the throttle shaft bushings are so worn that the shaft and the blades are skewed in their bores.

remove the air cleaner and disconnect the cable.
move (open) the throttle while wiggling the linkage and the shaft...see whats binding.
