Cams for a L03 305 TBI

Just wondering if anyone can help me pick a good performing cam for a stock L03 305 with TBI. I'd like to go cheap, but you get what you pay for so I'm open to anything. I know LT1 Cams are good choices from what I've read, but can't seem to find one to where I won't have to do anything to the engine. I just want to swap a new cam in....

Re: Cams for a L03 305 TBI

why? there's nothing to be gained from it unless you've done full exhaust and intake issues first.

Re: Cams for a L03 305 TBI

Cam swap is not that cheap of a mod, it requires tunin, fueling upgrades, 3.23 &up gears and a torque converter would be nice too.

I would start with exhaust and aircleaner upgrades like camaronewbie pointed out.

Re: Cams for a L03 305 TBI

Checkout the ramjet cam. It has less duration so my be an easier tune. Don't forget all the other parts you would need. Timing chain, valve springs, gaskets, fluids, etc. If you have headers first you will get more significant gains.

Re: Cams for a L03 305 TBI

Thanks for all the tips and advice, but couldn't I swap the LB9's cam in, or is it the same exact specs? Would I have to do anything else to the engine to swap that one in, do you think it would make a difference really? I've heard that swapping the heads off that engine onto a L03 is a good idea too, anyone know about that?!?

Some LB9's have the same peanut cam and some have the L98 cam so it all depends. It would be wise to still change your valve springs and do a timing chain to be safe while swapping cams. You still have to go through a ton of work for little to no gain without a full exhaust and a tune. Your best time and $$$ would be spent on full exhaust and rear end gears. You will notice the difference and be ready for further engine mods.

Re: Cams for a L03 305 TBI

@robertfrank...on your car domain, you say the 7101 Edelbrock RPM intake is a good choice, but I have a 1992 L03, would it still work? Jegs says it's for a non-EGR motor. I'm not a big wealth of knowledge when it comes to motors...

Check for hood clearance too! If you have a stock hood it may not fit. Also ask yourself if you plan to spin past 5500 rpms.

Re: Cams for a L03 305 TBI

is the adapter plate you're talking about the same one right below the manifold on your car domain? Also, as UnderCover89TBI said, will the EGR still work?

Re: Cams for a L03 305 TBI

yes it is the same plate that i have. unfortunately the EGR will not work. I have mine deleted. I also have a hole in my hood from when I had the TBI Spacer. I really haven't checked to see if the Air Cleaner sits too high.

How do you delete the EGR? Is it hard?

what's a fairly easy way to tune these cars for someone like me with no experience? What kind of tools/programs/etc. should I get?
