X2. The EGR when functioning properly has no effect on WOT power and deleting it on a stock engine can cause valve damage due to excessive combustion temps. Unless your running aftermarket heads with stainless valves and a retuned ECM, I recommend you keep the EGR in working order.

DITTO. Souns like youre confusing AIR, with the pipes to the manifolds, with EGR, which is all in the intake manifold and heads. If youre using aftermarket heads(stainless valves), you can run without EGR if you like. However, your stock ECM program may have issues with it. The stock fuel map is very lean. The EGR prevents high combustion temps to help allow these lean mixtures. Without EGR you will run high cylinder temps.
You can overcome this by lowering coolant temp and richening fuel mixture. The cheapest way to do this is a 160f thermostat and fan controller, or fan temp switch, and an adjustable FPR to increase fuel pressure.

Re: new to tbi
Edelbrock makes a better flowing intake manifold. You said youre going with better heads. Im not sure about the LT1 cam. You might try Comp Cams cam selection program. You can download it from there website. And of course a good set of 1 5/8 headers.
Im fairly certain that the tubes youre talkng about are AIR system. That you can delete. It is strictly an emissions device designed to lower HC emissions by injecting fresh air into the manifolds/cat. The tubes in the manifolds only operate for about 1-2 minutes after a cold start to help heat up the exhaust manifolds. After that the air switches to the cat. A good cat on a well tuned engine reduces HC just fine without AIR.
