Cleaned IAC, High RPM solved

My rpm was high, to bring it down I had to tap on gas ( or tap it backward from behind the pedal). I got a throttle body cleaner, opened the it up and cleaned the IAC.

I had an IAC from a salvage yard, I cleaned that one and just replaced it with the one already there. It idled first time, but on the second start the car would not idle. I pulled the IAC and noticed the pintle was not retracted. I cleaned the original iac without pulling the pintle out, and put it back in. The car idles smoother and the rpm does not get stuck high.

I am not sure if it was the result of the clean iac or cleaning the throttle over all, I sprayed on the throttle where the kickdown wire is connected as well.

The write up for cleaining the iac says " open the throttle hose and clean the passage way". Is it the metal hose right on left side of the iac?

The idle was surging before the cleaning. It did some surging after the cleaing as well but it disappeared when I dorve the car around the block.

So what else to clean? Can I use the throttle cleaner to clean the injectors? How about MAP and MAF?

89 Camaro L03

The high RPM is back. The engine has smoother idle tho. After driving around it usually surges one time at the stop light and then rpm stays stable around 600-700.

The high RPM is happening after Swap to T5. I think a double spring on throttle will resolve the issue.

I also got a manual Prom for that year and planning to put it on as well. It is a FED prom so I am expecting some improvement. Will post the results here.

I am wondering ....those of you with L03... does your engine run so smooth that sometimes you cant tell if its running at all? Like no shakes at all?

Re: Cleaned IAC

Added a spring from NAPA and the idle now stays at 750. Maybe the reason it happened after the T5 swap was because the TV cable was removed.

Does it stay up after motor warms up? My high idle was not because of IAC but wouldnt harm if you cleaned it.

yup! My car does this samething.I think its normal. I just throw into gear and after it runs for a while, the rpm stays around 1000 in park/neutral.

do you happen to know the part # on it?. Is this the spring on the side of the throttle body?

Re: Cleaned IAC, High RPM solved

cleaning the port where the IAC screws into the throttle body is important . i went through the same as above to no avail with a new IAC . removed IAC again , inspected , took a small insp. mirror , looked in port that IAC screws into . OMG , what a crud build-up . sprayed carb cleaner into port and cleaned it with a small rolled up piece of scotch brite . sprayed cleaner again till port was clean . re-installed all , problem solved . hope this hint helps , good luck . worked for me .
