I want to keep TBI !!!?

Hello new to the site. I have a 92 camaro tbi 305. the 305 just isnt enough!! i recently bought a 350 bored .030 over. ( 355 ). it is freshly rebuilt. it has a .447 lift comp. cam also it has part # H345NP hypereutectic pistions. i belive they are kinda gineric but decent quality pistons any opionions will be appreciated. anyways i would like to keep my factory tbi setup thats on my 305. i also want to use my 305 heads. could i just use everything from heads up on my 305 and bolt it to 350 block? i understand i'd need more fuel but also what would i do about my computer? thanks in advance

Re: I want to keep TBI !!!?

You can do that. But I would not change the heads. The 350 heads are better. And if the pistons have been changed you dont know what thier compression ratio is. if you put 305 heads you might have too much compression etc. Stick with the 350 heads. Now the 350 heads are they centerbolts? (i doubt it) If not that is where the problem lies in the intake mounting.

I heard you would need more fuel. You can upgrade your electric fuel pump to a walbro 255 lph pump

You want to get a computer out of a 350 tbi car or truck. Like a 91 chevy caprice or something of that nature.

Re: I want to keep TBI !!!?

As Undercover mentioned, need to know what the 350 heads are. With 193 swirlports, you would have a 9.35:1 compression ratio. With older heads you would have 8.34:1 compression ratio. Huge difference. If they are 193 swirlport heads, the intake off the 305 will bolt up. If they are older non-center bolt heads, use a carb intake with a carb to TBI adaptor to make it work. Also, you will need to know exact specs on cam. Also the 305 injectors are too small with that much engine, 350 injectors will be easier to make work (the fuel pressure will be closer to stock pressures so no need for new fuel pump). You will also have to reprogram the ECM to get all the potential out of the new 355. (it will run, but will run a lot better with tuning) You really will need to put a 350 chip into your existing ECM to have a chance of it running close to decent on startup.

Re: I want to keep TBI !!!?

Ya we need head info...post the number under the valvecover.

As the above mentioned the small chambers of a 305 head are a poor choice as a performance enhancer for any real builder.

Your throttlebody will work great with The proper mods & 350 injectors.

Your going to want to upgrade your ECM with an EBL Flash...or you can just suk ***** wishing you had one.

Re: I want to keep TBI !!!?

The 305 im running now already has 350 injectors i put in when i first got the car. so im set on injectors i was going to consider and read up on putting the spacer in on the injectors to get more fuel. i havent heard much about the reliability on the spacer tho. the heads are not cnter bolts the guy told me they were 194's. Head # 333882. idk if they are good or not. the pistons are if not very close to factory compression. i just know my 305 motor im running now has solid heads the car doesnt smoke or burn any oil at all. thanks for the comments hopefuuly the head numbers and piston specs will give you enough info to give me some advice thanks

Re: I want to keep TBI !!!?

With 882 heads and those pistons you are running the 8.34:1 compression. Not the best heads in the world.

Re: I want to keep TBI !!!?

The 305 heads have a problem with valve shrouding, and aren't great for big flow numbers. The combo you have as it sits is about 254hp @ 4500 and 354 lb/ft @ 3000. The problem I see is the cam. It has an LSA of 107, that would give the computer some problems. As for heads, it depends on how much money you want to spend. Using those heads, a good set of long tube headers and a computer friendly cam like a 12-364-4 will bump you into the 300hp range with about 400lb/ft of torque. A good set of heads will bump that even higher, it all depends on budget.

Re: I want to keep TBI !!!?

thanks that is probably the cam im going to go with. im just going to look around for a set of heads and possibly use the 882's as a boat anchor . i am on kind of a tight budget. as far as the computer goes should a factory 350 tbi computer be fine for my setup?

Re: I want to keep TBI !!!?

You'll also need a knock sensor for the 350 engine from what I read.

Last I checked you could get a core longblock L31 for about $500.00 complete and the Professional Products aka Edelbrock knock off intakes can be had for about $129 on Ebay.
