Ok so Ive got my tax return incoming within a few days and im torn between Getting a tune and a intake for my Cobalt SS/TC which will get me about 320WHP. Or helping out my camaro thats been garaged for about 2 months. The camaro is a 89LO3 with a flowmaster 3in catback, tbi chips stage1, and a open element. It has smoking on startup/during revs about 2000, and some piston slap. Also if I recall correctly the tranny is starting to slip a little and the rear end clanks a little bit. Stock suspension/everything. Bent front right spindle. So my question is should i spend the 400 to get past the 300 mark on the balt or if I budgeted about 800-1000 for the camaro what can I get down? Which seems better? I really want the camaro to run right but its gonna be harder to swing past the wife. Ideas?

 

cant rebuild the motor for 1000.00. So with the other problems I guess you fix the cobalt?

 

So you think the motor need a full rebuild?

 

well the piston slapping. so it needs new pistons and an overbore. so yes. the tranny is slipping so that needs rebuilt. thats more than a grand too.

you can get a junkyard rear end and hope its good. get a junkyard spindle too and change that out. that'll be less than a thousand...but that is about it.

 

i dont think that 305 is worth rebuilding.you could get a nice 350 for under 500 bucks around here in nj but thats here i dont know where you live.the tranny will cost an easy 500.if your going to fix the car do it right!,no bullshit if you want it to run right build it right.personally i wouldnt go to the junkyard for trans/rears too much time to pull it out and for it not to have any reverse or forward.i actually found a nice LT1 motor from a roadmaster its got 74,000 on it and they want 350 bucks but i dont have the right tools to do a swap or i would jump on it.

 

If I came across a deal like that I would be all over it! I just moved to Temecula, CA. I dont even know of any junkyards around here.

 

Better to include something nice for the wife with the tax return or you'll never get the Camaro fixed!
